Well where is cooler? This is a 2 space rack with a 5150 and Marshall cab. Where would look best to you? Under the head or above, or somewhere else?

Re: Where would you put the rack?

It really depends what's in the rack. Is it something you'll need access to for tweaking in the middle of a gig? If not, I'd suggest putting it behind the cab or out of the way somewhere in case someone knocks it over.

For now, it'll be self controlled as I don't have a midi changer and may not for a while. Just an effects unit and power conditioner in it.

Re: Where would you put the rack?

Don't you have 2 cabs? Put the head on one, and the rack on the other. That always looks good.

Or, if you get a roadcase for the head, set the rack on that, next to the halfstack. Or, on the floor.

I've always thought it looked goofy to have a rack between the head and cab, but that's just my opinion. And on top of the head, you're risking it falling off or scuffing the head.

Re: Where would you put the rack?

Let's see, 5150 amp, Intellifex LTD. Dang, you've got close to the same setup I ran over 10 years ago....lol.

Put the rack on the floor next to the amp or like Joe said if running two cabs. Never on top or between the head and cab.

Re: Where would you put the rack?

it'd be all about stability and accessibility as needed

when i ran my rack, i had it on an amp stand, angled up for me to see and access it

those one piece integrated amp head case / rack cases are very cool for guys who need to protect the gear in transit (touring, etc) .. .head on the bottom, rack spaces on top .. all wired up, just pop the front and back off

I'm gonna avoid that as long as possible, they're expensive and huge!

They sure look cool onstage at the Forum, but man, those things are huge!

There was awhile in the early 90's, when I got infected with 'rack-itis' and was lugging around a case with a head and 6 rack spaces. Also, some time with a 16 space Mesa SUS-4 rig. Boy...I learned my lesson. Lugging that around almost killed me.

If you use a rack, don't go larger than 6 or 8 space. You'll regret it.
As a matter of fact, if you use a head, get a 2 space soft rack bag for 1 FX unit and a Furman powerstrip. It's so much easier to move around.

That's exactly what I did. I use nearly nothing effects wise so I have no need for any more.

Re: Where would you put the rack?

this may be a different look at the same issue.... but i've always tried to keep my amp heads and effects off of the cabs all together... i always figure they may not need all those extra vibrations from sitting right on the cab
