Where's it coming from ?

Re: Where's it coming from ?

I'll use a stombox OD if im not playing my marshall. But i didn't buy my TSL 100 to use pedal distortion. IMO, you can't beat a great guitar like a Strat or Les Paul running straight into a great amp like a marshall or mesa. You need the right amp to bring your guitar to life, because that's where your OD tones are the greatest. Amp OD sounds pure and raw where as stompboxes make the sound too "processed" or "false" if that makes sense. I do use them for solo boosts, as the TSL 100 is not equipped with a solo boost option.

Tube amp distortion, 100%. Stompboxes sound cheap to me and just don't sound convincing, especially at higher volumes. Having said that, there have been some legendary guitar players who've gotten great sounds with stompboxes. However note that most of them use it very sparingly and only to add a little juice to the front end, while the poweramp is still responsible for their tone.

For example some might use a Boss OD1 or DS1 for a light overdrive, but obviously you're not going to sound anywhere near Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai or Joe Perry plugging a Boss pedal into any amp. Their amps' power section are still doing most of the tone.

I think relying on stompboxes is not the way to go for getting a good sound, unless it's just unavoidable (money, volume limitations, etc).
