When I gigged I played mostly Hendrix and Sabbath covers but what I personally play is blues (Gallagher and Green), old metal (Sabbath and Priest), and those late 60s rock bands like Mountain, Quicksilver Messanger Service, and Taste.

I can't wait to get in a jam band type with my Bassman...... :D

Something must have been written wrong there. You said you haven't gigged yet, but have played at parties. But later on you have a sentence that starts with, "When I gigged." So I am not sure what you meant to say in the second to last paragraph.

I don't really consider the parties "gigs." It was mostly just jamming on tunes. I should have said when I played at the parties.

From the 80s to about 2007 I played self written hard rock and punk rock, both older school styles. I used a Fender Twin the first few years, often with a 4x12, a Marshall JCM 800 half stack for about five years, and a 78 Hiwatt DR504 (50 watts) with either a 2x12 or 4x12. Since then I've only played a couple of one-offs, and some jam sessions using what ever was around (blues and classic rock).

I'm looking to get back into it more, writing older school hard rock, and playing blues covers. I'll be doing that with either a Trinity 18 (Marshall clone from Toronto) with a 1x12 cab, or a Marshall Class 5 combo.

The trend in my history is I'm using smaller rigs as time goes by.

Split about down the middle between my Peavey XXX head and my Jet City JCA20H, love 'em both, they run into my Peavey 412MS cab.

I play a sort of Punk/Pop/Garage mix these days but I'll use the XXX when my old band plays and that's straight up Hard Rock.

Back in the day it was a Pre-CBS Twin Reverb, sometimes a 50watt Marshall head through a 2X12 cab, '69 Gold Top LP, and a '67 SG Standard for slide. Mostly Blues, Allman Bros, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Stones, etc..


Although I haven't gigged in a while, but I'm using a Vox Tonelab through a Crate Vintage Club 50watt (2X12) with WGS Green Beret speakers; '87 LP Custom, '61 SG/LP reissue; and a '91 Hamer Archtop Custom. Playing the same stuff I played back in the day for the most part, except I haven't played slide in years.

For my pseudo-prog rock band I use a Bogner Shiva 6L6 head with a Marshall 1960A cab, loaded with g12t-75s and vintage 30s.

Otherwise I will use my Blues Jr

I use a Cube 60 for everything. I've done Hard Rock, Metal, Funk and Pop gigs with it.
Well over 100 gigs with it in the last 5 or 6 years.
It has a Line Out with emulated speaker that sounds pretty nice put out loud actually.
Haven't bothered micing it except for a couple times when there were some badass mics available and had to give them a shot.

And curiously, I've bought a few dirt pedals that I thought sounded better than what the Cube has on it's stock models, in the bedroom they sure do.

Live? Not a chance. The onboard models sit much better in the mix, and sound broader and bigger too. No idea why, but that's going on without a doubt.

So lately I've kept all pedals at home.
Sometimes I keep GASing for something like a Bogner Shiva or a DSL50 or whatever. And then I ask myself why I bother at all.
Each time I haven't got my tone right live, it's been my fault.
Not to mention a Shiva is a bit too rich for my third world ass.

Last time I gigged with a full band, it was a 65 Amps Lil Elvis head with a 65 Amps extension cab. Nice and lightweight, beats lugging around a 100 watt head and 4x12 cab.

Over the years all of my heads have had pretty even distribution of playing live. For a long time it was my JCM 800 2210, and my Splawn QR as well.

The last year or two has been mostly acoustic though.

Mesa Lonestar Classic through an Avatar 2x12. I play in two settings, at church and in a pop/rock band. The band is in club settings so the amp is running in 10-watt mode, but at church I'm in front of several hundred people and my amp is mic'd in an isolation cab off-stage so I can really get it cooking.

Another JCA20H user here. It does what a good single channel amp should do, so I can set it and forget it.

Back when I was gigging regularly it was my Laney AOR 50, whether I was playing guitar or bass.
