Which amp to build next....

Right come on guys i'm kinda stuck here as all amps interest me for different things.

The amps in the running are

Bogner Uberschall/Twin Jet
Mesa MKIIC+
Krank Krankenstein.

I originally considered the Decatone too but after playing one I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be plus it's too similar to my SLO anyway.

It's quite hard choosing as all the above amps do different things and are all equally interesting in one way or another.

I will obviously be putting my own spin on it as straight up clones are too easy.

Re: Which amp to build next....

A friend of mine builded the uber, said it was great, for the krankenstein you'd have to go SS way, that thing has some transistors clipping in there.

I vote for Splawn nitro, I think you mentioned a friend of yours has the original one, so you could check how good the clone is. Maybe a nitro with a CF I wonder how that would sound like

The nitro is on my definitely to do list after the new year. I have a friend with a Quickrod.

Regarding the Krank. I haven't fully had a look at the schematic but I think the transistors are part of the switching logic and effects loop. I can't say for sure though as I just gave it a quick scan.

Krankenstein.

Do you build amps just for S&Gs? That's pretty awesome.

Kinda. I generally just build stuff because I can and well you can never have too many amps . I'll be doing a couple of pedals this weekend that i'll post up.

Dude, if you can actually do a C+ you are a god. Supposedly the transformers are a real big part of the sound, and I'm not sure what was special about them, but I guess you can't find them now.

My Mark III has it.

I think the biggest part of it is the Simulclass output section. it's really a fantastic design that works extremely well even if it isn't what it's actually claimed to be.

You can get replica (replacement) transformers from TAD that mesa recommend themselves. It's something i'm doing a fair bit of research on and will probably get something custom designed along the same lines.

nope, the revolution is all tube, the krankensteins is the rev with diode clipping.

BTW the demo of the Fryette Deliverance they have on sloClone gave me a serious GAS attack, that would be an awesome project

Teach me, Master.

Whichever one I do I will do a full build log on here and upload parts lists/suppliers etc if you want.

With pictures, a basic understanding of schematics, a steady soldering hand and generally electrical safety knowledge anyone can do this.

Re: Which amp to build next....

I also vote IIC+, I love my MKIIB and would love to see someone do a build from scratch of one. It's a complicated little beast.

This is one of the main things that appeals to me regarding the IIC+ as it would be a real challenge where the other amps aren't as much of one.

The huge metallica fan in me is screaming out for one too.

Re: Which amp to build next....

I'll give a vote to the Deliverance build. Since that's not on the official list, though, I'll go with Mesa.
