Which are tall leg?

I got some Slash pups for my build and found they are tall leg and won’t fit. Thinking of exchanging for 59 custom hybrid trembucker and a pearly gates. Are either of these tall leg? The website doesn’t specify and SD isn’t answering the phone or answering email.

Thanks!

Re: Which are tall leg?

welcome to the forum!

i believe the trembucker is going to be short and i can check the pg when i get home. in fairness, in the description of the slash it mentions long legs. in general the vintagy paf type pups usually have long legs.

Re: Which are tall leg?

Trembuckers always have short legs.

AFAIK, PG's also have short legs. WLH's also have short legs.

Re: Which are tall leg?

I think it is/was based on the guitar it goes in. Gibson’s have a deeper rout and usually would get the long leg, although short leg will fit too. It won’t work the other way around. As in a long leg pup probably wouldn’t fit in a Charvel.

I can’t speak for Duncan’s, but all the other brands I’ve bought in the past can be made either way. You just have to specify when ordering.

Re: Which are tall leg?

Thanks for the responses. I actually was ignorant to the fact that pups came in long/short leg, and jeremy you're right, it does mention that the Slash pups are long leg. I researched possible fixes and decided I didn't want to mess with the pups or re-rout the cavities. The 59 trembucker and PG combo I think will be a good one. That said, I might look at direct mounting them as I like the look and honestly don't remember the last time I adjusted a pup height.

Re: Which are tall leg?

No, the only standard duncans these days that come with long legs are the Slash (as you know) antiquity (all) and 59. Everything else is short legged.

Re: Which are tall leg?

Are you kidding?!

You're wanting to buy pups based upon the length of the legs rather than their specific tone and/or output?!

You realize that the C/59 hybrid and the PG are not the same (tone, output, performance wise) as the Slash set?

If you want the Slash pups, it's an easy fix to just replace the baseplate with short-leg ones. Really! It's not a big deal. (And it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying two more pups).

Re: Which are tall leg?

I'm not saying that the C/59 and the PG aren't great sounding pups. They are, in their own rite. But they don't sound or "feel" like the Slash pups.

There are a number of SD pups I liked. I rejected the idea of swapping baseplates for a number of reasons, one being that the only thing identifies the pups as actual SD Slash pups is the stamp on the bottom, another being I don't want to spend $$$ on a quality product that doesn't fit my project, knowing I'd have to "fix" it in order to make it work - square peg in round hole idea. I like the tone of the Slash pups, I also like the tone(s) of the C/59 and the PG, and I won't have to f*ck around to make them fit.

Re: Which are tall leg?

Remember, you can always order any pickup with long or short legs as a Shop Floor Custom. These are ordered through an SD dealer, but might take longer outside of the US.
