Definitely the Bluesbreaker. I've tried the Boss a few times, but was never impressed.

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

I have a Barber Direct Drive that I like very much. I have the 1.0 version. The newer version has some tweaks to it, which I would imagine would greatly improve an already awesome pedal.

Gotta thrown a vote in for the Keeley Phat mod blues driver. It handles all styles of blues equally well. It's the only OD on my board, no matter what style of band I'm playing with.

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

Austone Millenium Overdrive. I had one but foolishly got rid of it cause I didn't know what I wanted at the time, I'd get another but at $300 a pop its on the back burner.

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

For the price of 2 Boss pedals, you could go on Ebay and buy the brand new Fulltone Fulldrive II Mosfet (royal blue for $160, which is the same as the burnt orange 10th Anniversary from 2006. It's $60 cheaper than the Anniversary, and it's the same thing.

No matter what guitar or amp you use, you can find a great blues tone in that pedal.

I've been playing the Keeley modded BD-2 side by side with the Bad Monkey and I prefer the Bad Monkey. It sounds smoother to my ears and has much more tonal control over the mids. Flame away for picking the cheap pedal!

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

DOD 250 (die-cast yellow, mid-80's). Any bucker in this ****er sounds like angels screaming from on high.

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

Are you looking for a super overdriven Gary Moore style tone like no authentic old school blues player would ever use or just a little overdrive?

I like the Boss DS-1 better than any other pedal I've ever used.

But my favorite "effect" is a George L cable plugged into a cranked Fender tweed Deluxe or Deluxe Reverb. LOL!

I rarely use pedals...

Fulltone FDII Mosfet for the Marshall JTM

Fulltone OCD for the Fenders

Klon for driving two amps

BD2 at home

Plexidrive for full basket of fun and Trimode for driving my wife crazy

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

AnaLogMan KingOfTone--worth the two year wait. It can do all levels of OD/distortion but I find myself using the "clean" channel most of the time: it pushes a tube amp nicely and adds very nice "grit". The unit is more subtle than I expected, until you bypass it: then its "Please don't stop doing that!!!"

EDIT: I think the question deserves a more thorough answer: Distortion, whether from an amp or a box, changes a plucked instrument (guitar) into a sustaining instrument (like an organ). "Overdrive" is sort of in between, and when I think of blues I think overdrive, not distortion; I want an enhanced guitar sound, not a guitar driven sustaining sound. If you're looking for a "guitar" sound and your axe/pickups don't produce the basic sound you want, then no pedal/amp will solve the problem. Before you select anything you must decide which sound you are trying to make AND take into account whether the basic tools you have can produce it.

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

Out of the three listed I'd say the Bluesbreaker.

Haven't heard much good about Digitech at all.

WOW! It took 18 posted for someone to metion the TS. My TS-9 is like the American Express card for Blues gigs...I don't leave home without it. I find the mid-hump that most complain about is very usefull in cutting thru in the live mix when you use a smaller amp(like a Princeton)

Re: Which Blues OD pedal?

Which is your favourite Blues OD pedal?

Of the ones that i own/spent extensive time with, thenm def. the BD-2 :firedevil

. . . i love mine !!!

The Marshall is also very good, especially for the price !!! Very underrated unit if you ask me ! ;)

Right now, i am thinking og getting the Jaques Tubeblower thought - kinda like a hot-rodded TS808, with a nuch bigger spectrum sweep !
