The Alnico II Pro isn't what I would call dark, but it's not bright, that's fer sure.

Re: Which bridge buckers do you consider dark?

None are what I would call dark...but most of the Alnico 2 HB's seem to have smoother treble than most of the alnico 5 HB's. You ought to try a Custom Custom and see if that's more to your liking. Lew

For me the A2 CC was dark in my les paul.....

Try the Rio Grande BBQ if you want a darker sound without resorting to A2 magnets.

Sounds like you want a pickup with a more balance tone.

Uasing alnico II in a custom wound pickup can get what you are
looking for. I just put in a Genesis Mr.Browney and it's got tone,
tone, tone. I try all the rest. But in 20 years of buying and trying
pick-ups this is one of the best. I also have a few of the SD Custom
shop EVH in my guitars. ( nice pick-ups too ) But I got to say.

Mr.Browney beats em'. Read the Harmony Central Reviews. :cool3:

The Invader is dark, but not bad dark. Same with the Original Parallel Axis Trembucker.

I agree with you 100%.

i think almost all vintage/modern HB's are dark unless they're underwound (jazz). I'm just been playin nuthin but single coils since i started and i think they're the best. hijack completed

Re: Which bridge buckers do you consider dark?

I haven't met the Duncan that is dark in the bridge. I find most Duncans to be voiced towards the bright side.

Agreed that the Rio BBQ is darker than most bridge pickups. That's why it works so well in the bridge if you like warmer tones but don't want to venture into "distortion all the time" territory.

The BBQ is MUCH darker than a Dimarzio Air Zone by the way.... :D

Re: Which bridge buckers do you consider dark?

The NX2, Megadrive. SD Distortion, Dimarzio super Distortion, Tone Zone
Elvolution, Invader, Full shred, the Norton. XL 500, Dime Bucker.
the Breed. Trembucker Distortion. Muy grande. super 3's. Maybe
the CC. because of the exteme mid boost.

any high power pickup that Dimarzio makes ( less on the treble side & lots
of mids , Lows )

SD high power pickups are a little brighter IMO.

The X2n, Megadrive, and Evolution are nowhere near dark. If anything they are on the brighter side of things.

The Breed is a much more well-balanced pup, imo.

Re: Which bridge buckers do you consider dark?

Wow!! :saeek:

Thanks for all your answers!!

Your answers make me think about the concept of "trebly". It seems that it is not that strait forward!! More than a dark pickup (no treble) i am looking for something with spongier treble, not earspliting. So the A2 humbuckers are the group i should look for.

Re: Which bridge buckers do you consider dark?

High Order 8.5k/A2 bucker. Jeff Gay over at the Plexi-Palace makes them. $55 shipped. Kevlar3000 replaced his A2 59' with one. I put an F-spaced one (8.75k/A2) in a friends strat thru a 250k pot-line6 JCM800 setting. Had a nice Fair Warning growl to it, warm and fat with attitude. Highly recommended.
