I don't believe it's true that Trembuckers have a thinner sound than their standard spaced counterparts. Having a vibrato or not has nothing to do with whether you use a Trembucker or not, IMO. It's all about the proper string spacing and Fender string spacing is the same at the bridge whether the guitar has a vibrato or is a hard tail w/o vibrato. I'll vote for a Trembucker too...but because it will have the proper string spacing. The reason I suggested a JB is not because it's my favorite humbucker in a Strat - THAT would be a nickel covered Pearly Gates Trembucker. The reason I suggested the JB is because it sounds good with 250K pots and the single coil SSL-1's pretty much have to have 250K pots to sound "right".
Since you have a trem on that thing you'll need the Trembucker.
