Which Celestion for my Peavey Classic 30?

Re: Which Celestion for my Peavey Classic 30?

Thanks for the time Scott, I really appreciate that.

Christian, the stock peavey blue marvel speaker that came stock reads 14.5K on my multimeter.

BTW I ordered a 16ohm for the peavey and a 8ohm for the fender blues jr., which now has an alnico blue so I am covered there as well.

Waht follows is a bunch of stupid questions, because I do not know much about amp mods:

When I were to use only the 8ohm (to be fitted into the amp so no extension cab) I figure I would be getting more volume, but also face the danger of ruining the 8 ohm speaker. No? Would there be any tonal changes? I guess the point at which the tubes would start cranking the tone would be almost twice of what is now. (That's good and bad!) Is this correct?

Has anybody tried that?

I've dowloaded the manual too and it's clear that you can plug anything less than 16 Ohms. This may sound ridiculus but... have you consider building a 2x12' cabinet? This could be a good moment.

Guys I may be wrong But I think the classic 30 can only handle an 8 ohm load. The stock speaker is an 16 ohm and the extentions cab is also 16 ohms. Ran in parralell you get an 8 ohm load which is the lowest impedance I would run off of a Classic 30 (that is if you like the amp, the trannies tend to be cheap).

Re: Which Celestion for my Peavey Classic 30?

Guys,

First off thanks!

I called up the Peavey customer support, and was able to get an answer for these questions. Well they say that this amp is good for 16 ohms only. If I were to run a speaker setup with less than 16 ohm impedance overall, I should be ready to face 2 serious problems. Either the speaker might blow (they say) or the circuits designed to handle a flow of current at 16 ohm would get seriously hotter with 8 ohms. So they advised strongly against it even if I were to use an extension cab, since that function also turns out to be designed for 2 16 ohm speakers.

:blackeye:

It is all just because some guy in samash depot just happened to ignore what was written on the invoice, and happened to pack 2 8ohms! :banghead:
