So I'm building yet another strat-
Alder, HH setup, tremolo, maple neck and maple fingerboard.

Which combo do you like better or would you recommend?

1) Breed Bridge and Breed Neck or

2) Air Zone Bridge and Air Norton Neck

3) Norton Bridge and Air Norton Neck

Thanks!

Pretty much love the Air Zone in everything I've tried it in. Mainly Gibsons... Les Pauls, SG's. Would probably sound even better in a Strat.

I think the Air Norton is the perfect match for an AZ. I use this combo in a Les Paul and it really sounds good.

Go with the Breed bridge/neck set since it provides you good levels of output which you can always turn down a tad by simply using the volume knob when you want to, not to mention that it was designed around guitars with bolt-on necks, tremolos and 25.5 neck scales. It's the most reasonable choice to go along among your options though it could've been possible to come up with something different if you had listed what kinds of music you're aiming to perform with that guitar and what you expect from your pickups (like higher output, good harmonics, warmness/brightness,etc.) ..

I love the AZ/AN combo and have used it in a lot of guitars. The Breeds, while great pickups, are a different animal altogether. They were developed for Steve Vai to make one of his Jems (Pogo, a basswood body, huge locking trem, thin neck, 25.5" scale) sound more like a Les Paul.

The Breed bridge is fantastic. It's hot Alnico 5, way smooth, and has a presence spike in the upper mids, but is never piercing like a JB/EVH can be. It has a lot of bass, but not a lot of lowermids. So it's E.Q.'d like a Custom but without the harsh treble. It is pretty compressed sounding.

The Breed neck is interesting. Very dark pickup, fat and woody sounding. I didn't like it at first because solos on it are meh. But it has a thick archtop sound that I now love for clean rhythm, with lots of lowermids. It complements the bridge well, but sounds like two different guitars.

The Air Norton is weird, at least in the neck. It has a bit more top end, and a massive bottom (it can do distorted rhythm over the Breed neck). So it sounds kind of hollow, but a lot more open. There are mids. It is sparkly. It's fun to play, but ultimately didn't work out for me.

So if you like those sounds, a versatile combo might be: Breed bridge, Air Norton neck. They go okay together. I've tried it. Dunno about Air Zone.

hands down the BREEDS
these are very underated pups
they sound fantastic if you need a fat paf type tone and they are still clear tone
they have more definition than the TZ/AN set and they are more versilte to me
seriously good pups
;)
