Which compressor?

So, the sound I'm looking for is a PAF sound with the tightness and attack of an.... Evolution:yell: Once there is no such pickup, I decided to begin with the PAF tone from the pickup and tighten the sound through the rest of the tone chain.
So, which compressor pedal do you recommend? Are they all the same or there are differences between each company's pedal? For example the compressor by Marshall, the constrictor by Line 6, Titanium by ONER I think and so on.

The pickup is the VHPAF, I like the PAF tone of this pup. Very metallic...like an engine or something. The amp is a Marshall TSL601 (I may get an eq pedal in the future too - just for versatility). I can get a sound like this, through my brother's POD XT live but I want to catch it through my amp's distortion too. So, what do you think?

Re: Which compressor?

I picked up a Keeley Compressor recently.....and I can tell you don't get that one. It's good for the cleans...but I'm not too impressed with what it does with the gain.

Re: Which compressor?

Analogman Bi-Comp got rave reviews....

Re: Which compressor?

isnt the Keeley essentially a dyna-comp with a few changes? Compressors will react differently depending on your setup and make of the pedal- I always thought good distortion compresses the signal enough, but for cleans, I really like the hi-fi sounding Boss. My favorite is the Waves Renaissance compressor, but it is a software plugin, and unless you want to add a laptop to your rig, it won't help much.

Re: Which compressor?

+1 I like my ED-1 quite a lot . . . it has a great feel for funk, and does work nicely with some overdrive to do a thick Santana type sound.

Re: Which compressor?

Thank you guys for the help...I'll check them out.

To be more specific. I'm more interested in distortion.

Re: Which compressor?

Why not just use a certain pickup with something like a nice booster to ramp up the output and dynamic characteristics?

If you must go with a compressor, though, I'd get a Barber Tone Press.

Re: Which compressor?

There is no best, only what works for you and your setup!

Yea I appologize... I kinda went overboard with that one. But I think it is really good and has a VERY LOW amount of noise even with some of the higher settings and just has the clearest sound quality. There's something about it that is truely spectacular. I do not know enough about comps technically to describe it, but I just know that it sounds better than all of the others ive played.

I don't want to just push it because I usually find a certain spot on the gain where I can play palm mutes while the distortion doesn't hide the overall tone. I think I can achieve that with my amp. The only thing I need is super attack and tightness.
