Which delay pedal?

I'm looking to buy a delay pedal for the first time - I'm looking for something that will do Andy Summers kind of stuff but also more subtle tone thickening etc. Any suggestions?

Re: Which delay pedal?

My favorite is the Line 6 Echo Park.

Re: Which delay pedal?

I'm quite pleased with my Boss delay... its the DD3 I think... thats a safe bet...

Re: Which delay pedal?

I like the DD-3, but it can be a bit bright and "digital" sounding. I highly recommend the Rocktron Short Timer for a first delay. It's a great deal, built like a tank, and is designed to sound a bit funky and analog even though it's digital.

Re: Which delay pedal?

If you really like delay (I do, and have went through several pedals), and know that you'll always want it in your rig, go buy a used Line-6 DL-4 module. I got mine for $130 and it's definitely everything I've ever owned that was good, plus more.
But, I'll also say that if you're just looking for some nice and smooth, analog-sounding echo, you might not go wrong with a Danelectro DanEcho (from long sweeps to great slap-echo) or a Guyatone MD3 (it has two modes for a LOT of range). Both good quality and well under a c-note used.

Re: Which delay pedal?

i like my ibanez ad-9

but i dunno who andy summers is so i can't comment on if it does his thing

Re: Which delay pedal?

while large, i haven't been able to stop playing with my new boss RE20 space echo. amazing sound, very organic. before that i used a boss dd6, which i think is exactly like the dd3 except it has stereo outs. great pedal as well. i may actually be selling the boss now so if you are interested PM me. probably be selling it for around $100.

Re: Which delay pedal?

I love the DL-4 for the sound and the looping....a close 2nd is the Boss DD-20.

Re: Which delay pedal?

I have tried a few delay pedals to date. There are a few I can recommend:
Rocktron Short Timer - should do Andy Summers' thing well, durable, sounds good, and is affordable. Digital but not too clinical.
Guyatone MD3 - small footprint, lots of options, and can do the self-oscillation (feed back on itself). Digital and clean-sounding, not a vintage tone.
Boss DM-3 - sounds very good but can be pricey - it's a vintage classic now. It's analog so it's warm and funky.
Marshall Echohead - very good for the money, lots of options, doesn't degrade your tone. Digital but not too clinical.
DOD FX90 - an analog oldie, very funky and warm-sounding, can do the infinite repeat/feedback thing, but can also degrade your tone. May get a little pricey too, and those DOD footswitches sometimes fail.
