Which delay?

Hey.

My dad just gave me a gift certificate for a Boss DD-6, but its not in stock, and they dont know how long it will take to get new ones home.

I would like a delay like Slashes at the intro of Welcome To The Jungle, but something that can be used in general for 80s type of stuff. I have a CM Delayla, but its a bit too grainy and subtle for my taste.

I can get either of these:
Boss DD-3.
Boss DD-5 (Used).
Boss DD-6.
Digitech DIGI-delay.
CM Red Repeat.
Ibanez DE-7.
Line6 Echo Park.
Rocktron shorttimer.

Which one would suit me the best, in your opinions?

Thanks alot.

Merry Christmas.

-Alex.

Re: Which delay?

DD-20, Ibanez DE-7, the Echopark sounds good as well.
If you do not like the Layla...do not get the rr.
Echotone might be more to your likings....but also a lot more expensive;)

Re: Which delay?

Well the Echo Park is MAX for my spendings....

Wait a sec, Rid recommends a Line6 product? Post of the year :)

Could you point out a few good/bad things about each one, and perhaps the DD-5/3?

Re: Which delay?

DD-5/3 bright 80's delays...kinda dull and not all that pleasent in the long run.
I liked my old DD-2, and the first batch of old 3's.
Well I like some of their stuff...just not any of their amps much, allthough alot of others gets very good sounds out of them....they are just not my thing ampwise!

Re: Which delay?

Okay...Hmm, I am gonne try it out, but when I compared the DD-3 to the 6 I just liked the 6 better, had a bigger sound to it.

I havent tried the Echo Park or the rest though.

Re: Which delay?

If you can afford the DD-6, go with the DD-20. ;) Unless you're running out of current.

Re: Which delay?

They haven't made them in a few years, but if you can get your hands on a Boss RV-3, it's a really cool pedal. It's Digital Delay/Reverb in one unit. A buddy of mine had one 10 years ago, and I always loved a few of the combination reverb/delay settings on it.

I kept an eye out on eBay and at local music stores until I found one...a NOS unit at a store.

Digital reverb pedals usually get a bad rap, and as a general rule I agree, but this is one of the coolest pedals I've owned...for the $$.

Re: Which delay?

I just got an Analogman modded DD-6 and its by far the best delay I've used. I can't believe how good this thing sounds. It might be digital, but it beats every analog chorus I've owned or used.

Re: Which delay?

The DE-7 is a great sounding unit and inexpensive to boot. I've heard good reviews of the Red Repeat and the Shorttimer.

I had the Echopark...great sound, but I kept changing the delay setting with my foot...I learned that I don't care for a tap tempo feature.

Re: Which delay?

I cannot afford the DD-20, but whats the big difference?
Thought the prices of DD-6 and DD-20 were comparable, but I might be wrong then.... Well, the DD-20 offers you a ton of possibilities, most of it is suberb sounding (there are a couple of functions that could be better..). You can have four presets, etc. Look up on musiciansfriend.com and read about it and listen to samples if you are interested. You can't go wrong buying one.
However, it pulls a great amount of current. If you're daisy chaining your pedals, it might be your power supply can't take the DD-20 in addition...

She usually does what the photographer wants, in terms of facial expression. The previous pic you speak of, was taken by Amber in our car on the way to meet up with some forum bros. I'll put another smile avatar up.

Re: Which delay?

Well I am listening to soundclips now.

The DE7 sounds nice, but a bit sterile so to say, though it might be the clips

I am listening to the Echo Park now.

Re: Which delay?

Hmm from what I have been hearing both the EchoPark and DE7 have features I like, especially the trails function.

I am looking for a delay with really clear delays, and that can be heard, they must not be low in volume.

Something like in the intro of this clip, where it really makes the sound bigger and rounder http://youtube.com/watch?v=SKMYeXkYcgs&mode=related&search=

Re: Which delay?

Lol.

Well I messed a bit with the delayla. I got pretty okay sounds from it.

Do you have a few settings suggestions? For Welcome To The Jungle intro and some real 80s delay.

Nice! I hope the photographer soon will realize that she also has an incredible nice smile to use in photo sessions. You're a lucky man. :)

Edit: sorry for the off topic. Good luck with your search for a good delay AD^DK, if you happen to have questions about the DD-20, feel free to ask. I can answer some, and I know there are plenty on this forum that are very experienced with this unit.
