Which differs more from an a2pro aph1 neck; SD 59 in the neck or SD jazz in the neck?

So I'm dead set on replacing the stock pickups on an epiphone flying v with an a2pro aph 1 in the neck.

Thing is, I have another guitar which has an SD 59 in the neck and I would want to replace the 59 with a jazz if it sounds too similar to the a2pro aph 1.

Thoughts/suggestions and opinions, anyone?

Well, an APH and a 59’ are fairly different pickups. The APH is lots of mids and smooth highs, with no really strong or sharp bass tones. The 59’ is crisp highs, scooped mids and sometimes too full or boomy bass. The APH and the Jazz are the exact same pickup, except for the magnet; A2 for APH and A5 for Jazz.

The Jazz is certainly going to be brighter than the APH, but I have never heard the Jazz described as too boomy or full in the bass. This is likely down to the wind and the poly wire, vs the PE wire in the 59’.

So, I would say the 59’ is the pickup most different from the APH, of the choices you gave.

To me the 59 is a very even but bland pickup. The Jazz to my ear has a brighter top end than the 59. The A2P is a Jazz with more warmth.

So I would say from warmest to brightest: A2P, 59, Jazz. The problem with the 59 is it has neither the Jazz's sparkle nor the A2P's warmth.

The 59 may be a happy medium for you or, if you are like me, the 59 doesn't really accomplish anything.

Trying an A2P bridge model in the neck has worked for me when paired with something hotter like a Custom 5 in the bridge.

IMO a Jazz differs more in sound, despite using the same coils.

I'd say the Jazz is the most different, then the 59. That said, The main difference is gonna be the highs. A5 sharper ones in the 59 and Jazz, more mids in the A2P than either.

However...that brings up and interesting note: Here is a section of an A2P, a Pearly Gates, and a Gibson T-Top (1979). Are they REALLY that different?

Leon made some good points. The APH and the Jazz are the same pup with different magnets. So if you have either one and a couple different magnets you could tailor it to sound how you like. Put an A2 mag in it to get an APH. Put a UOA5 in it to soften the highs and give it more warmth but not as much as an A2.

I love the Jazz (bridge) in the neck. A few extra winds gives it a bit more output but mainly give it more mids and warmth.

Like Inflames, I never bonded with the 59...not as warm as an APH, not as sparkly as a Jazz, pretty scooped sounding. I've tried many different mags in it but still never wowed me. It's not a bad sounding pup at all, but just not my cup of tea.
