Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

Okay, I know this type of question has been asked a million times :wall: , but what do you think IS the biggest, thickest and warmest medium to high output Duncan pickup? Of the ones I've tried I'd say the JB. I only tried the Custom on an old strat and wasn't thrilled.

Thanks! :)

Invader in a Les Paul? It's got to do clean though. :blackeye:

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

You might be right about the JB. If you still have it though, you can put a ceramic magnet in it and try what is CLOSE TO a Distortion.

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

The one in Mr. Duncan's personal guitar, of course. :)

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

Maybe I'll have to pick up another JB over the Custom. most seem to agree it has the biggest and widest tone.

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

Do you still have the Custom? Because if you grab an A2 and A5 magnet you can try the CC and C5. Two magnets would only cost you $10 and it is very well worth the investment. And if the Custom is just a little too hot for you, you might love the CC.

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

I'd say the Custom Custom has the thickest tone of any of my humbuckers. Depends on the guitar of course...mine is in a semi hollwbody Hamer. Didn't sound as thick and buttery in a solid body Hamer. Lew

Lew, ever try the Rio Grande BBQ? It's either a love or hate thing with most people, but I love it. Still waiitng on a custom or JB for my LP.

Nope...never have.

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

The 59's pretty thick for a lower output pickup if you ask me. For higher output pickups I'd say the Duncan Distortion. I haven't played an Invader so I can't comment on it.

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

i have tried the bbq and it is thick, but kinda muddy and grainy (and not a good grainy). like a tone zone with a thicker mid range and less top end and clarity. as far the the thickest duncan id say probably a patb-2

What's a PATB-2? I really love the BBQ, but wish I could find the equivalent Duncan just as thick and same output!

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

the patb 2 is the parallel axis distortion model. big and thick with loads of output

Re: Which Duncan has the biggest/thickest tone?

I say the Invader too. Have one in the bridge of a Ibanez RG and with a RAT 2 it´s almost overwhelmingly fat...but with the ceramic magnets the word "warm" is perhaps is not describing the tone of it? More "fat & agressive"?
