Which Duncan pickup is like JB, but nicer?

Re: Which Duncan pickup is like JB, but nicer?

Yeah, I always wanted to try a Fred, I heard it in a basswood though. Will it still give me some of that paf/'59 vibe like the les paul?

Absolutely! i have one in my charvel strat cause i wanted a paf type tone in this axe  before the fred the charvel had a JB then a CC in it. i like the fred best of those. here is a guy using one to mimic a 58 paf tone where VH used a stock gibson 58 V with pafs in it

What about a Dimarzio Norton? Or D activator X neck in the bridge. Its focused in the high mids, and only 300 output.

I have my Fred in a basswood bodied strat and it sounds great...Can't compare it to a LP though? It's a 10k mis-matched coil pickup(I think?)Great harmonics...Love mine!

You check this out as well, although not exactly a strat, but great vintagey tone from fred:

FYI
the switch from A5 to A2 will drop the output noticeably, if you did want to consider the JB
and the demon is awesome.

Thanks guys, wow so many pups to choose from. I would consider Screamin demon, but the price range is little steep, I'd like to have it under the normal range. There is also the question of A5 vs A2, which would suit my guitar more. I's a strat, so I think it would react differently than LP or SG, also keeping the neck pup in mind as the volume should be close.

I know I said I wanted upper mids/JB like, but to make matter worse, I'm also liking this sound:

Skip to 2:50, it's Larry's '59 Paul, and man that sounds good. I just wanna get close to that now with a strat. Then I hear the 36th, and to me, it sounds nothing like original '59.

Dammit, it's hard, because it's my #1 guitar, and I want it to sound like one. I've got a SG with JB, and it sounds way better, but that's not numero uno. I've got issues with two girls who are jealous of each other.

*EDIT*
That old '59 Paul sounds so good, it makes me wanna cry.

Man, that 59 sounds amazing even unplugged.. Whay cant they make em like that anymore? love the top too.

Always wanted to try a Fred, but I just usually dont gel with dimarzios. I tried an norton and it was ok, but didnt make me wanna keep it.
