Which Eminence speaker ?

Hi
Im looking to replace the greenbacks in my Marshall 1960TV Cab

The greenbacks are nice but can't handle some of my amps & FX.

So Im needing a warm speaker that can handle alot of bass frequencies
of my Carvin X100B (I use it clean with pedals) at volume there is alot of Bass kiling the greenbacks.

Im looking for a loud speaker as well at least 100db.
That sounds good for
Clean for Funk - Country
Warm crunch think -AC/DC , UFO , Thin Lizzy , Blues Saraceno .
And can handle High Gain think - Lukather , Vinnie Moore , Santana ,
Kee Marcello , John Norum etc

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

I have several X100B's. I've been playing Carvin amps over 24yrs and love them. Skip the eminence speakers and go with the Warehouse Guitar Speakers. They sound much warmer and balanced. I use the ET-65's and they sound better than the Chinese speakers Celestion is putting out nowdays. They get all their parts from England then assemble them here in the U.S. in Kentucky. But they are not Eminence speakers and sound more natural with Carvin amps than Eminence. My 2cents worth.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

Ok thanks for the info
I also have several Vintage marshalls that can get quite bright with celestion speakers
Hence looking at Eminence speakers , mainly the older Legend series interest me . The GB12 & v12
There also cheaper here than any other speaker !
Anyone like these speakers ?

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

I've got one 2x12 loaded with Governors and one with Man-O-Wars.

The Governors are like Vintage 30's but without that annoying, nasal, high-mid spike that can work against you at times. Smoother overall... I like them.

The Man-O-Wars are like G12T75's but with more bass and again, smoother.

I've also used a Wizard, which was sort of like a G12H30. If you need more bass content out of your speakers you might try those.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

I use a mix of the Eminence Private Jack and the Red Fang in my 2x12, and I really like both of these.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

Lots of good speakers mentioned here.

But, for an Eminence that would deliver what you spoke Taipan, check out the Legend V12, it will give you a lot less color than many other speakers.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

The GB12s will have a lot of the same character as the greenbacks you currently have in your cab. I have them in a 4-12 and like them for some stuff but the bottom end is a touch too loose when driven hard. The Legend V128 is my favorite speaker; very versitile in an open or closed cab. It will be very bright until you break it in. The bottom is much tighter than the GB12 but not to a point that it becomes clinical. A single V12 in an open back can sound huge and is my favorite configuration.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

ok so its between the GB12 & V12

I was looking into the V12 but read it was brighter than the GB12 .
Which i don't want.
But ill look into it.
Back to the GB12 getting a bit "Loose"
How would it compare to a real greanback ? even %20 better bass responce
I'll be happy with that

My favorite speaker is the Celestion G12-65.

Once this is said, those Legends are the best bang (sound)for the buck.

They handle very good the bass and they are just creamy smooth in the highs.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

The difference between the GB12 and the V12 will be in the character department, not so much a difference in level. The GBs will have a bass character much like the greenbacks you currently have...the v12s will be tighter, more percussive.

If you have a bass level problem, you may want to evalute your cabinet. The back panel can flex and absolutely kill your bass response. A little stiffening can yield spectacular results. Who knows, you may want to keep the greenbacks then!

Palm mute a low E as you feel the back panel; if you feel anything at all, bracing it will help.

Re: Which Eminence speaker ?

I had a cab with old celestion 65 watters didnt like them much.
Although i know there were several versions ..

To the point about the bass frequencies , I have been runing my carvin X100B
clean channel with a multi FX unit for my sounds (Cover band stuff)

To my suprise i have gotten very good tones , overdrive tones very similar to my JCM800 2203 as well as all the other FX and clean tones I get from the FX unit.

The only issue is with this set up you dont get the natural tube overdrive compression & softness of the bass frequencies

At my stage volume the bass can really smash the lower watt 25 watt greenbacks making them fart out

Just wondering do the V12's compare to the G12H-30's ?
