lews got some good advice there.
i have a twin and i love it but its way too damn loud to be useful, gonna sell it.
i have a blues jr which has about as much volume as a deluxe, and its great but doesnt have enough clean headroom for some gigs.
the current production pro reverb is 50w 1x12 channel switching amp that doesnt really do much for me. the clean is nice but the overdrive isnt my favorite flavor, not bad but not great.
the old pro reverbs are nice amps 35w or so
the new vibrolux are cool. i played thru one in montreal that seymour was using and a few guys i know have em, they are good sounding amps.
for around a grand id probably go for a super reverb. 40w 4x10, great cleans, if you crank it you get rich sustain but it also works great with a pedal

how much would u sell ur twin for?'
also will the super be good for jazz?
is it warm sounding?
how bout the concert reverb? thank you

Re: Which Fender Amp?

Look into the Pro Tube Series Concert, Twin, and Pro. They aren't the reissues, but have the same appearance, plus a deeper cabinet. What you'll get is a classic Fender Clean channel that honestly sounds better than the reissues due to the deeper cab, tube reverb, tube tremolo, Fender's best gain channel to date, bias points on the back, 1/4 power switch, direct out, mixable FX loop, and a 4 button footswitch.
The Concert Reverb I had was easily the coolest Fender amp I've ever used.
One channel is pure blackface tone, and the other channel is like a Soldano or Shiva.
New, these amps are a little over $1000, but used, they're a steal!

Re: Which Fender Amp?

also wut about the 59 bassman?

i played on one a year ago, all i remember was it was punchy and clean as hell sounding, every note just accented (though with a little mute sounding)

Re: Which Fender Amp?

The 59 bassman sounds great, but there's no reverb on it and it is fussy with pedals. I wouldn't buy it as my only Fender amp, but definitely as a second.

Reagrding the Silverface or blackface Fenders-these are great amps, but do some research on the current prices. I have owned a Princeton Reverb and two vibrolux reverbs-which all sounded great. Tonewise, you cant go wrong with a deluxe reverb, either an original or the reissue, but the originals will hold their value better.

A twin is loud, but takes well to pedals and will hold its clear, glassy fender sound up to high volumes. It sounds Best when cranked, but it's also extremely useful at moderate levels.

Choices i'm looking at are....

1. Twin Reverb
2. Deluxe Reverb
3. Pro Reverb
4. Vibroleux

Thank you

BLACK FACE SUPER REVERB OR VIBROVERB

THERE ARE NO OTHER FENDER AMPS THAT MATTERS.

Re: Which Fender Amp?

I only know about vintage Fender amps...

1. Deluxe Reverb is about 22 watts.
2. Vibrolux Reverb is about 35 or 40 watts and has two 10's.
3. Pro Reverb is about 35 or 40 watts and has two 12's.
4. Super Reverb is about 40 or 50 watts, has four 10's and a larger output transformer than the Vibrolux or Pro Reverb.
5. Twin Reverb is about 80 watts and has two 12's.

The Super Reverb, because it has a much larger output transformer than the first three (it's a 2 ohm tranny but the same size and output as a Bassman's 4 ohm tranny) and because it use four 10" speaker which have more surface area than two 12" speakers, is very loud and, IMO, very clean until you get it up to 5 or 6 volume wise.

I no longer own a Pro Reverb or Twin Reverb but I've owned a few of each of them.

I do own a Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb and Super Reverb though.

The Super Reverb is another of those that is cool for gigging if you're playing loud enough to turn it up and actually get a little overdrive, but as often as not, it's to loud to really crank up, and usually to loud to have fun with at home.

Aspen Pittman, owner of Groove Tubes and one of the best vintage amp collections on the planet, says "the Super Reverb has the rythym tone of doom". Really big, bright, present and clean. Most unmodded Super Reverb amps hurt my ears a little to be honest.

Re: Which Fender Amp?

I think the Vibrolux has a more Open 3D liquid and chimey sound, more like a Bassman. The other models including the Deluxe are more in your face and not so 3D to my ear.
Please excuse my cliche' analogies!
The only thing with the Vibrolux is the headroom...... will it stay clean enough for you. If not, you may have to install some JBL, EV or Weber 10F125 speakers.
