Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ? How much is a minimum first hand USA stratocaster ?

...hah.

By "models" are you interested in Jags, Mustangs, Teles etc., or just wondering whether all those strats that look exactly alike but apparently are different models are different at all :laugh2:

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

I mean in stratocaster models

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

i like them all..... one of each will do.....

a standard American Series Strat will do me fine

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

I like a lot of strat models, mostly the American Series, Deluxes, and especially the new 62 Hot Rod strat for $1600.

I'm so used to Am. Std's and American Series that they feel right to me. The only thing I change is the pickups.....a Surfer Custom/2 Surfers in a US strat does fine by me.

And as usual, you'll save a lot buying used. There's so many on the used market that it's almost silly to pay $1000 for one. You should be able to find one for $650.

I like the stratocaster, personally. Five distinct tones. But me, I will try to own at least one of everything.

To me, the Stratocaster is super versatile, so I like it.

Then there are Telecasters. Not as many switch positions, but a good guitar nonetheless. I'd own one and try it out every once in a while.

Then there are the Showmasters. I love these to death! They're the shred guitar Fender never made (and then put the "wrong" pickups in for shred lol). Excellent guitars.

Then there are the Mustangs and Jaguars. I might own one of either of those, or of both. They have a lot of good tones and are versatile, but the controls would take me a while to get used to.

I'm one of those freaks that takes a different guitar to church every service, because I want to stretch myself, and because I like being different and unique every time.

I've come to the conclusion that you can always count on Fender to surprise you.

Fender makes so many models and I think most of them come down to minor differences in the grand scheme of things. Some like V necks, some like C, some like huge frets, some like smaller ones, some all maple necks, some rosewood freboard fans, some like vintage output pups, others hotter, etc.

I'm the last person in the world to be a strat fan, but...

I'm in the process of selling off 2 guitars (1 of them being an EJ strat) and what do I see staring at me in the music store, but an ice blue metallic American Vintage '62 RI. I was saving up my money for a classic white Gibson Firebird V and what do I go home with? Yes, that's right.... ANOTHER Strat. I'm a sucker for cool guitars and yet again I get sidetracked. It's a sickness I tell ya...

I love HH and HSH and HSS strats. the problem is i dont think any comes HSH, but most fat strats are my way to go. Specially the old Highway one HSS in cocoa were awesome because they had that look i like (Black Hb slapped on an otherwise common white strat.) But I love the fact that any HSS strat can pull off pretty much anything. I like them with 22 frets, but my strat has 21 and honestly I don't care much nowadays. I love the fact that besides the neck heel everything else on the guitar is pretty ergonomic. i hate the way the volume knob is right next to the bridge though, because i don't anchor my fingers or anything so when i do a palm mute or something i have to be extra careful not to do swells with the volume knob. luckily my strat came stock with the control placement i like (Tom Delonge signature)

Normally I would say that you're a bad person, but because it's a strat I'll forgive you this time.

I personally would like any '60s or '50s type strat. I'd prefer the '60s strat because I like rosewood fretboards. If fender can make many different guitars and still cut a profit then more power to them. I'd rather have too many choices than too few.

There are many subtle differences between models, just try them all and find what fits. I'm with Joneser on the '62 Hot Rod, it's on my "Gotta get me one of those" list. I fell in love with a Sherwood Green one that was in my local shop, just a bit out of my budget at the time. Someday....someday!

I like the cheap MIM Standard series, signature series and custom shop. Hate the American and Deluxe series.

The Mexicans are alot of guitar for the money

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

60th anni strat is probably my favorite that i've played

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

For what it's worth, however, they need to stop making guitars with the same HH '59/PG+ configuration. I like that pickup set, but i think they're way over-using it. Like the Telecasters that come with Duncans usually come with that combo. "Um, can you guys please use some of Seymour's other fine offerings that are for a Telecaster? Thanks!" :D

EDIT: for what it's worth, the Spalted top Telecaster comes with it, and that's a nice looking set neck guitar, probably sounds great. But me, I'd think "wild top" and "wild pickups". The thing is mahogany neck and body, believe it not, so I'm wondering why they didn't ship it with a Full Shred set, or Distortion set.

With the Tele shape when you start getting into a set neck and all mahogany you tend to leave the tonal qualities that the Superstrats were known for. Remember, this is a guitar with a single cutaway and mahogany, it shares more in common with a Les Paul than anything else.

Dig the MIJ RI guitars. I've got a spectacular 62 RI strat and a 69 RI Thinline that's to die for.

True.

EDIT: for what it's worth, however, if it is comparable to the Les Paul in sustain, it would make a better guitar, in my opinion.

I like the big CBS headstocks - that's why I can't find anything that looks sexy in the latest catalog besides the Highway 1 (the reissues have tiny annoying frets, and a small radius which I also don't like).
So, from the existing models, it would probably be a Ritchie Blackmore MIJ signature guitar or a Highway 1 (as a second choice, far behind).

From the Telecasters I like the MIJ Richie Kotzen signature model (besides the pickups), the 72 Deluxe, and anything that comes with reasonably flat fretboard radius and wide frets.

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

I like the American series strat in SSS or HSS, and the same configuration in the Deluxe American series. Don't care too much about anything in the middle of the fender line, except maybe the Highway one series, but they are way overpriced. There are some nice Made in Mexico strats, but I need 22 frets, so I avoid them. If you want cheaper, you can find some standard Squier strats that sound and play great, after a pickup replacement.

Re: Which Fender Guitar Model is for you ? Is there much differences between models ?

I love Eric Johnson's strat, but if you want a '57-style made in USA the American vintage '57 strat is by far the best. The absolute bargain strat is the Jimmie Vaughan strat. Mexican, better than most Americans I think. Fat neck, great pickups. A guy on here actually told me about them & they're great.
