For GFS, I've tried:

Mean 90
59 bridge
VEH
Crunchy PAT
Fat PAT
Crunchy Rails
Power Rails
Crunchy Rails Neck
Power Rails Neck

I sold the Mean 90, and the 59 Bridge was "ok" but both of them did not have enough output for what I like. I have all the rest in guitars now and enjoy them. I've also got a Crunchy PAT with an A8 and a VEH with an A8.

For those people that tell you not to get a GFS pickup, I'm willing to bet that they don't have much experience with them.

Please elaborate on the crunchy pat and veh with an A8

I'd like to know about that, too. I have a VEH in the bridge of my Les Paul that's perfect, so I won't change that, but I have a couple A8s laying around. If I get another one that could be cool.

I imagine it's a tad louder with stronger mids?

I've also taken the GFS 59 and Fat PAT and made a hybrid out of them now.

The Crunchy P8T is an awesome pickup. It's really close to a C8.

The VEH8 is also worth doing. It gives you a little more power but keeps that organic sound.

The VEH8 is also worth doing. It gives you a little more power but keeps that organic sound.

I wonder what the screw pattern looks like for the baseplate of the rails pickups. It would be interesting to do a hybrid with a rail coil and a screw coil. :cool2:

Sometimes they match, sometimes they're a hair off. I made a hybrid between a GFS 59 and a Guitarheads MEGAMETAL Rail pickup. It lined up just fine, just had to widen the holes a tad on one baseplate because the rail coil used bigger screws.

FWIW, the xaviere 599 I just bought came with gfs crunchy pats and IMO they sound pretty sweet as is. I originally had planned on replacing the crunchy pats because I thought they might be a little too fat for my tastes but they sound better than expected. my $.02
