Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

For it's been 2 types of guitars that I have had multiple models of.
1994-1996 Grover Jackson era MG series USA Washburns

And Carvins mostly 1988-1992 24.75 scale neck through guitars.

Like the necks and the way they respond so I set several up with different pickups for different tonal colors.
I also look for different wood combinations in the same basic guitar.
If it feels right it just get's played more and those guitars to me feel right.
Right now I play my PRS Custom 24 more than anything on stage but they are just so expensive that I can't afford a bunch of them.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I own multiples of most of the guitar types that I have.

- Strat (four) and Legacy (two)
- Esquire (three)
- Les Paul Junior (a regular Jr. and a Les Paul Melody Maker)
- SG Standard (a '68 Standard and an '01 MIJ Epi)
- Les Paul (an '04 Standard and an '83 Custom)
- Explorer ('06 Gibson and '04 Dean Z)

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I had a few multiples of but now just a pair of LP's. My '57 R.I has a std Brobucker/ '59nA4 which is a fantastic pairing. The other is a '96 Page model that isn't really anything other than aLP standard with a reprofiled neck. In saying that its a great LP with a Ant A8 bridge/ PGn shop floor custom. Both nice phat variations of the PAF sound!

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Have 2 Strats. Both alder bodies with maple necks and fingerboards. I love how Strats feel. My first electric was a Strat copy so they are the most familiar to me. Like an old pear of jeans, super comfortable.

Franky has a Screamin' Demon/Slash neck combo, 1 single volume control.

Jenny has a Hot Stack Plus/Classic Stack Plus/Classic Stack plus setup. Volume, Master Tone, Blender to blend the neck and bridge together. The tone control is a push/pull to split all 3 (more like turn off the hum cancelling coil).

I also have a couple of old Kramers; a Baretta with a JB and a Focus 2000 (the Pacer's Japanese sister...lol) with dual JB's. Both have OFR's and rosewood fingerboards.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I've got four Telecasters. Why? Because they're awesome guitars is why! Really though it's because they've all been models I listed after and now have tuned to my own tastes.

-96 MIM Tele: Was one of my first guitars bought early on in my playing life. I've customized the entire thing in that the neck and body are the only original parts on it. Sports an SD Broadcaster in the bridge and a 59n at the neck. It stays in 5-string mode in open G tuning. Still one of the best sounding guitars I own.

-08 AVRI 52 Limited Edition Thin Skin Tele. This was one of the limited runs for Wildwood Guitars. Came stock with a 59n in the neck. Only mod I've done is change the bridge pickup to a Don Mare 0038 Keefer. Naturally this one is also in 5-string open G tuning. Gets a lot of use in my Stones tribute band.

-'11 '75 Telecaster Custom. This was from Fender's Telebration series. I've always wanted a Tele Custom. I didn't care much care for the 62RI bridge pickup so I put in a Nocaster pickup.

-'09 AS Tele. This one I just love the look of. I changed the bridge pickup to an SD Broadcaster and the neck to an SM-1 Firebird pickup.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I own 5 Teles (all setup a bit different). 1. is a 52 RI (MIJ), 2. is a California Tele (Strat neck pickup & Tele Bridge) 3. is a Custopm Thinline Mahogany B&S with a flame maple top. It has a SD JazzN & 59B coil tapped. 4. is a black out Tele set neck, Pearly Gates. 5. is my Twistedcaster which has a SD minihum Firebird neck pickup & a friend made a custom Tele bridge pickup. It has some very cool inlays also.

I Own 5 Strats 1. is a black Eric Clapton Strat. Killer guitar, I liked it so much I bought a second one in metalflake Green. 2. The green one is Not quite as versatile as the black one. 3. a 57 RI that has been heavily modded. I replaced the neck with a Warmoth birdsye maple neck with Rosewood board. It has a set of Texas Hots in it with locking tuners, graphite saddles & nut I use this for a lot of the whammy stuff,(I use the whammy very subtle kind of like Gilmore). 4. is a Turquoise Strat with a RW board and a set of Surfers. Its very reminiscent of a 64 Strat. This one just got a new neck. The original neckc the rod failed so I replaced it with a Warmoth neck. 4. is a Gold Custom with some serious graphics on the body & headstock done by one of my oldest friends and assembled by another really close friend. It has Fralin Blues Specials, Ferraglide saddles, locking tuners and a graphite nut. Great playing & sounding guitar.

I own 2 Les Pauls 1. is a 1990 Standard in black. I recently removed the guard, replaced the pickups with the Slash Alnico II pros & blacked out everything else. Its a great guitar. 2. is a Black Les Paul Studio Gothic..

I own 2 Semi hollows. 1. is a 1985 Dot RI 335. My favorite Humbucking guitar. Great playing and sounding guitar. 2. is a 2006 359. Really nice player and it sounds great. More like a LP then my 335, but the size makes it comfortable. I prefer the 335. I will soon be getting a Brian Monty blues Queen, which is his version of a 335. The primary difference is its a solid back, sides and top(all maple) with custom pickups wound to his specs(should be a killer guitar). I should have it within a month....

Acoustic

I have about 6 Dreadnoughts, but the funny thing is I prefer an OM sized guitar. My Dreads are: D18, Golden era D18, Santa Cruz Tony Rice, D15, Guild D55, Takamine (don't remember which one)

I have more but these are the ones I have multiples of.

I only just have a few strats, because I wanted some different woods, and different sets of pickups . I wanted and Ash Strat, a Mahogany Strat, and Alder Strat. I wanted a underwound set of pickups, a few different takes on vintage sets ( including Duncan Antiquities), a overwound "blues" set, and a Strat with a bridge bucker. Also, a Strat with actives. I still need more Strats, cause I have more pickups.
I also need a couple more Superstrats, casue I only have a couple. Maybe a Charvel, and also something really high grade like a Ernie Ball or a Musicman and/or a Caparison.

Rocco and Rand-O, Seek my brothers and you shall find your own. :headbang:

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Right now it's just two Jackson Soloists:
- SL3 w/ JB, Hot Rails (x2), Floyd.
- SL2HT w/ JB, '59, TOM bridge.

I really like having a choice between a fixed bridge and a floating trem in two similar guitars. The pickups are all factory configuration, though there was a bit of fun in getting there:

- On the SL3, it had a Duncan Distortion when I bought it, which I took out and sold so I could buy a JB. That's what was in there originally, and I wanted to get familiar with the guitar the way it had been made. (I was really trying to get a feel for what these guitars were all about.)

- On the SL2HT, I was used to the sound of an A2 PAF-style humbucker in the neck of some of my other guitars, so I swapped in an A2 magnet into the '59 in the neck at one point. I was happy with that for several years, but a couple of months ago I changed back to the A5 -- I was craving the sound of that big, round "buzzy kazoo tone". Also, I decided that I liked being able to switch pickups on that guitar without any volume change, which is what a little height adjustment yielded after the '59 had become a '59 again.

I could see myself doing more of these. Different eras, different pickups, maybe pick up a fixer-upper or two and do weird stuff to them.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

4) Plus #2 - SFG with flamed maple fingerboard, SD Pro Active P pickup, Blackouts 2-band EQ.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

Have more than 1:

*Ibanez RG
*Ibanez S-Series
*Ibanez SZ Series
*Fender Strat
*Gibson LP
*Gibson SG
*ESP Horizon
*Jackson Dinky
*Schecter Omen

It's done to prove a point. Take the Strat for instance- USA vs Japanese vs Mex. I feel more 'complete' having variations of the same, knowing the differences & what suits me better. I eventually kept the ones I fancy over time.

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

70s was a bad time for fender across the board, wasn't it?

Pretty much, due to the types of **** you usually get when a big corporation buys an independently owned company from the guys who started it. Over all cheapening of stuff, changes in suppliers and materials, weird decisions that have nothing to do with improving the product itself, but only with increasing the bottom line, stupid designs, and the other usual crap you get with disinterested corporate control.

But the changes didn't necessarily make them completely worthless instruments. There are instruments from CBS that are just fine. My dad bought his '76 Musicmaster Bass brand new. When he died, I inherited it. It has been through a lot of use and abuse (spending most of its life without a case). It has been used for almost any recording, gig, practice, or other project requiring bass in my dad's or my life since 1976, and it has always got the job done leaving nothing to be desired. Almost 40 years later, it's my main bass with my current band, getting played at least two or three times a week. A few pots have gone bad over the years, but that's it. Feels good, sounds good, and has cost about $15 in parts to repair and maintain over these years. Not a bad investment for under $200.

only own 2 good guitars, both are Telecasters and Squiers , my main VM Telecaster deluxe in black with maple tinted neck and classic vibe tele custom. Both sound amazing and feel right for me. Yes I have tried many american Fenders and vintage Fenders.... never had the same resonance I get with these two and they both cost me about 600 bucks in total!

Re: Which guitars do you own multiples of?

I have two 80's Ibanez Iceman and two Fender Telecasters.
