Re: Which high gain head?

I've played a Bogner Shiva. It was a nice sounding amp, very Marshall like but with chimey highs like an AC-30. It also isn't nearly as gainy as most Bogners (slightly more gain than Marshall 2203). The clean channel was breathtaking, very Vox sounding and the reverb was excellent. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fixed boost, however this can be modded to a variable boost for around $150.

The Shiva I played was an EL-34 head w/ reverb through an open back 2x12 with Celestion V30s.

Ubershall is German for Sonic Boom!
Don't forget Randall Either.

No it isn´t, it merely means "faster than the speed of sound", i.e. Supersonic (can also mean Transsonic or Ultrasonic, btw)

A Sonic Boom is an "ÜberschallKNALL" ;)

Yeah, what he said... :grumble:

I guess I've been playing Streetfighter too much...(and yeah I still play that game! I love it!)

Re: Which high gain head?

I'd try out the Soldano Hot Rod 50. If you don't need the two channel model, the single channel version can be had for a reasonable price used.

Re: Which high gain head?

Wow, more responses than I expected. Thanks to everyone who contributed in anyway to this thread. Im going to go out on an expedition and test all theses amps about. The SE is still the winner though. ;) Thanks again guys!

Re: Which high gain head?

There's only been one guy that has designed a multichannel all tube amp that has the living soul of a roomful of vintage single channel amps. And that means crystal clean, every shade of grind in between, all the way to the sonic equivalent of a monstertruck.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Reinholdt Bogner! :laugh2:

I'm not going to vote. I've heard clips of the ENGL SE and it sounds badass. I've played the new Knucklehead Tre and it's amazing.

Is it just me or are more and more buried threads roaming the forum again?

Yep brought up by the same dude in a couple cases I have seen. Any real reason to bring up a poll thread from 2004 that had obviously ran its course? NOPE!

Re: Which high gain head?

wow...I didn't even notice that. :smack:

It's a little outdated isn't it...I hope he found a head by now! :laugh2:
