Which high gain pedal??

I need a good quality high gain pedal to use in front of the clean channel of my amp (i do NOT want scooped mids....just a FAT WARM lead sound). I have already tried the rat, the mi audio crunch box and the mi audio tube zone but none of them satisfied me 100%(the former two were much better than the rat though)......

Any other suggestions on what to look out for??? Maybe the tech21 tri AC......????

Re: Which high gain pedal??

yes it's not the amp's prob.....i am satisfied with all my other sounds, both clean, mildly overdriven e.t.c.....it's the lead sound that still gives me headaches......untill now the best results i have got with(and you may laugh with that but i prefer judging my sound with my ears and not with my eyes) the boss od 20 on the lead setting.......

Re: Which high gain pedal??

I like the Keeley modified ds-1 ultra. Good high gain but not metal sound, the ultra mode is really fat. At $120 it is cheaper than the od-20 and probably better unless you want all the sounds the od-20 offers. Check it out at www.robertkeeley.com

Re: Which high gain pedal??

If you are going to use it mainly for a lead tone, do look into the EHX Metal Muff !

Looki :

You can adjust justabout everything on this box !
Bass/Mids/treb + an extra boost for OTT solo's !!!
Personally i think this is a killer lead-pedal !

IF, for dome reason you do not like it, do look into a simmilar (OD + Boost) unit . . .

MXR MC-402 OD/Boost box.

I also love the clips of this one !

Good luck to you !

Re: Which high gain pedal??

I like the Boss Mega Distortion. It has 2 distortion knobs and 2 EQ knobs, so it covers a wide range of tones. I have a Rocktron Zombie, and the knobs ca nbe stretched for a variety of lead tones, but I would prefer to be able to turn the distortion down a little more on it. The Mega Distortion cleans up better, but not all the way.

Re: Which high gain pedal??

Either Indyguitarist Plexstortion (JCM 800) or Pinnacle 2 (the pedal i own and love) they are more high gain while not being harsh distortion although vintage high gain (marshallesque) if thats the sound u want.

Re: Which high gain pedal??

That our maybe the new fulltone pedal that has cascading gain stages sounds interesting. gt-500 i think

you should audition MI Audio's Tube Zone for one of the most organic (FAT included) driven tones- it does mild crunch to intense drive superbly!

Re: Which high gain pedal??

i have already bought the tube zone........and the crunch box.......what i don't like about the crunch box is that on the bass strings it sounds a little bit fizzy (if that's the correct word.....anyway the bass strings do not sound as clear as they should)......on the tube zone there is something on the mid freqs i cannot dial out....i know i may sound i little bit picky but aren't we all with our lead sounds??????????? :-) :-) :-)
