Which high output humbuckers surprise you with its clean?

Just wanna know your experience dear SDUGF fellow, what kind of cleans did you hear from it (as in trebly, middy, scooped, warm etc etc), what effort did you do to get that sound (split, parallel, volume/tone knob roll off?), from which brand and what model?
Me personally, I have minimum experience with aftermarket pickups where JB, Custom 5, and EMG 81 were the only ones I have tried, but that was a long time ago so I can't really remember.

I know I sound like a broken record but I love this pup and feel it is massively underrated. (Or at least just not on the radar)

The PATB-2. Don't let the DC resistance fool you. For all its power and umph, it cleans up great. It is compressed of course but it won't break up a clean channel unless you beat the heck out the the strings. It is very smooth and clear. Even clean it is pretty thick, although the high end has a good amount of bit. I hear it splits very well but I haven't tried that yet.

Custom, hands down.

Specially with an A8 and/or UOA5 mag in. A4s and A2s are no slouchs either.

Both the JB and DiMarzio Super Distortion sound great clean in parallel mode or split. I like the SuperD in parallel mode better though.

I have experience with the Duncan Black Winter set, Dimebucker, JB, Screamin' Demon, Pearly Gates neck, STK1, some of the Duncan Designed models, DiMarzio D Activator set, EMG 81/85 set, and Gibson 500T, 496R, 498T, 490R, Burstbucker 1 & Burstbucker 2 pickups. And whatever inter stock pickups are in my other guitars. And some others I'm probably forgetting at the moment. Also, the other guitarist in my band has Duncan Blackouts, and various EMGs in his guitars, including a Het Set.

Hands down, the Black Winter set beats them all for cleans. I do like the PGn better for distorted stuff, but clean the BWn is better. If the BWn was a little more bluesy, it would be my favorite neck pup.

I modified my Duncan JB by swapping the A5 magnet to an A8 magnet, it beefed up the sound A LOT in many ways while playing through distortion, but I was really surprised with how defined and ''clean/glassy'' (but not sterile) the cleans are, it sounds really musical!
Overtones also pop out easily, and with some reverb and delay on it, it sounds like heaven

+1 love the clean tone with the Dimebucker. I have a split switch on mine and that gives some very cool fat single coil tones and takes off a bit of the heat.

I gotta say for me it was the L-500XL... you can go from chugga chugga, to sparkly clean... Although I like to dial the tone down on it a bit for cleans.

The custom shop 78. cleans up with the turn of the volume control when cranking the amp. Also sounds good setting the amp clean. ITs a keeper

The Tone Zone sounds really nice for just on the edge of break up stuff. Split and paired with a neck pickup it does some great clean sounds . . .

+1. The small amount of metal mass in the pickup allows it to have both high DCR and a high resonant peak frequency. Normally there's an inverse relationship between DCR and RP frequency. Not so with this pickup.

The Distortion does the "Heavy metal" type of clean ok. You know how Testament does those clean ditties before they launch into Thrash. check out the Charvel So Cal videos.
