Which Ibanez RG?

If you're looking for an RG, I may end up selling my 471AH soon. I'll keep you updated if you're interested. Ash body. Has DiMarzio pickups. X2N, Fast Track 1, and D Activator X. Good guitar, but I rarely play it.

The only Ibanez I have prior is my RI Destroyer DT420 I got from Bro Jeff B . If this RG421 works out as well, I'll be interested.

No, I got the last Pearl Black Fade Metallic about 3 minutes after you got yours. :)

Nice! We need to do a NGD thread on them when they arrive. Curious if the colors will be different. Mine is scheduled for delivery Saturday. Sometimes I get my guitars a day earlier from AMS. Looking forward to another addition to the family. Can't wait.

Agreed. Mine is scheduled for Thursday, so we'll see how they do with their estimates.

Quite a stable, got any Japanese ones?

No, not anymore. I did have a 1990 570M but had to sell it around 5 years ago. It was a pretty rare guitar. I've never seen another one for sell like it online since. Had a 550 reissue for a short period and ending up trading it for a Gibson SG. Regretted that one. Sold the SG a month later. I had a few premiums at one time (one on the far left bottom in the pic is my only remaining Premium). If I would had kept all the RGs I have ever owned, I'd have 18 right now.

Mm, the 570M was a spot model, as 570s otherwise never came with a maple board. I guess it went away because there was the 550, which had maple, and it was the same guitar apart from being front routed. Yep, hehe, you need another 450 in your life sometime ;).

I haven't played any non-MIJ for a long time, folk seem to think they've improved over the years (even the Gios); heck, some Premiums these days cost as much or more than Japanese guitars. I used to have a 320QS - it was ok, but a bunch of stuff on it, like the trem, wasn't made to last. I don't know, when I got my first MIJ, I didn't care about anything else :D. I'm pretty comfortable buying them without playing them, usually know what to expect.

How is that Gio 7 string?

The current Gio RGs are much better than the past ones. All hardtail without trems, though, and the necks are slightly thicker. This Gio 7 I have is pretty nice. I just put the X2N in a few weeks back. I'm pretty happy with it. I have owned the 421 model before, too. Twice. Also, I once owned all the camo RGs from 2007. Even the tribal ones. I have been an Ibanez collector for a long time.

Maybe I should give one a go sometime, just to see; have seen a positive reaction to the new Gio with the greyed out purpleheart fingerboard, like you have. Yeah, I noticed the hardtail predilection - safer bet for sure, those budget vintage trems can be recalcitrant. Regarding the initial post, I'd go with the red one if it were me :).

2007 had some cool models, but colours for the most part kinda sucked.

Ibanez is certainly a rabbit hole - so many different kinds of guitars over the years, and then there's weirdo/cool ones which didn't always appear in catalogues.

This is true. The SB70 is semi-legendary having never been in a catalogue, yet it has a good following. Studio body with a Blazer neck, 2 humbuckers and a hardtail bridge. Played great, sounded terrific. Still available from online sources for about double what it sold for new back in the 80's.

^^ Ohh yeah, those are rare, I take you have/had one? The 80s pre-RG/Jem era is generally underrated, though has a lot of dedicated punters.

I'll destroy any possibility for you to ever buy anything burled ever again. Burled wood happens when there is a horrible tragedy and the faces of the damned become trapped in the wood. See them? Screaming to get out....

Uh . . . does this description make burled wood seem more appealing to anyone else?
