Which is better Duncan Custom or Dimarzio Super Distortion?

Re: Which is better Duncan Custom or Dimarzio Super Distortion?

I've never really liked the tones I got with DiMarzios. The ToneZone in my SoCal is passable, but only because it gets a vintage Iron Maiden tone (with EQ help from my rack) more easily than with Duncans.

I've tried the SuperD and the Super3 and the Evo neck/bridge set previously, and frankly they all sounded rather flat and grainy.

Works for some, yeah, but I prefer a smoother tone that doesn't compound a given note (usually a C) all over the neck - that one note will be way louder than any other.

Really nice answer. That is the kind of answer I was looking for. Straight ahead, "This one is better for me cause......" Thank you. I am not asking the question cause I am not sure about either or whatever. I just want a census of sorts on peoples experience with one or both pickups.

Am I wrong in asking how do Dimarzio Super Distortion and Seymour Duncan Duncan Custom compare? Should it be Dimarzio Super Distortion vs SD Duncan Distortion?

I like the SH-5 Custom and Distortion better. To me the Super was dark and bassy. I like a brighter pup, with more treble/high mids.

I love both.

But there is a raspiness in the top end of the Super Distortion that is a little harsh. So really it depends on the guitar. A Strat with a rosewood board will soak up a bit of that. While a Gibson Flying V with an ebony board pronouce it even more.

I have guitars with both, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Duncan Custom for its overall balanced hot ceramic tone.

My experiences with the Custom:
-smoother Top End than the Super Distortion but not as aggressive.
-better harmonics than the 500T but not as focussed.
-thicker than the Duncan Distortion but... um, yeah I got nothing. (The DD sounds great by itself but gets lost quick in 2 guitar band mix.)

It really depends on the guitar and the sound you're after.
