Which is LOUDER?

Are Mesa Dual Recs louder than most High Gain heads? I was in a loud rehearsal with a punk band tonite, and I felt like the Dual Rec, a notch or two below 1/2 on the main vol, was eating up the room.

Any thoughts?

Re: Which is LOUDER?

i wouldn't say they're any louder or quieter than any other typical 100 watt tube head out there. they're loud alright, but so are 100 watt marshalls, laneys, ect.

Re: Which is LOUDER?

I think the 50 watt recto is super loud

that being said, rectos are the SoCal standard for punk a nd metal bands

Re: Which is LOUDER?

like others have said, they arent any louder than anything else.

speakers make a huge difference in volume. if the rec was going thru a cab with v30's it would be louder than if it was going into a stock 1960 which has the 75w speakers

Re: Which is LOUDER?

V30s are louder than 75? Are they louder than G12H30s as well?

The only speaker to SLAY ME were the EV12Ls

Re: Which is LOUDER?

I'm still wondering why Mesa ever made 150W Triple Recs. For what? I was looking at Ebay today and saw the most crushing amp Mesa ever made....The Colisseum power amp that's like 300W per side or something silly. They discontinued some of the higher powered amps they've had in the past.

Re: Which is LOUDER?

I crank around my place all the time. the only time I ever got a complaint? Mesa Mark IIB with EV12L set to a whopping 1.5 on the volume

Re: Which is LOUDER?

keep in mind guys watts dont relate to loudness in a very efficient way since you need to increase your wattage tenfold to get twice the volume! So basically a 50 watt mesa going thru a 4x12 will be approximately twice as loud as a 150 watt mesa going thru a 2x12.

Re: Which is LOUDER?

I have a Mesa Mark III Coliseum Head and a 412 C90/EVM Halfback Mesa Cab. Most of the time, I use the 1/2 power setting. The full power setting uses all six of the 6L6s for 150-200 watts.

It isn't so much loud as DYNAMIC. The notes just EXPLODE from the amp on the full power setting. Even on the 1/2 power setting, I like to use a little bit of compression to smooth out the dynamics. Volume is important, but it's the feel of this amp that makes me love it!

Re: Which is LOUDER?

and that makes sense too, power will give you headroom which translates to dynamics even at cranked levels where a 50 watter would be clipping or just maxed out, so things like palm muting will sound a lot clearer and more open at 100 watts as compared to 50, the volume difference is negligible tho
