Which is the Hiwatt?

Re: Which is the Hiwatt?

Sorry about not letting you get in on the action Scott... The news was SO big I just...lol

How a SS PV does a good PV imitation baffles me. They should be launching these as their SS line of amps, for those craving vintage sounds... There is a very specific Hiwatt snarl that only the Hiwatt does, but I love some less expensive options...

We're cut from the same cloth in that regard. I love a bargain and I love finding a dusty amp that nobody wants and finding use for it. Redeeming it so to speak. Picking up those dusty and sometimes smelly nuggets is a joy that few would understand. I've enjoyed playing through many a solid state amp in my time. I think some were very underestimated and are currently undervalued. I remember cranking up a really crap-tastic solid state fender bass amp with a 15" speaker in it and it looked like hell, but it had a certain appeal that made playing it really enjoyable. I didn't buy it, but it sure was fun to mess around with in that pawn shop. I almost bought it though. I was tempted by it for sure. The pawn shop was trying to sell it outright as a bass amp and it really was poorly suited for that purpose. The wattage was way too low and the speaker flubbed a little even with a guitar running through it. It just had a certain something about the tone that was nice though and a little dirty in a pleasing way. Dark for a guitar, but not in a bad way. Very bluesy.

Yeh, I missed out too. I was also going to say #3. But I have to admit that I like the openness of #1. It reminds me alot of the sound of some of the Who's stuff. But, as has been said, maybe a little less refined...a little more in-your-face kinda sound. (More in-your-face than the Who? Maybe that's not even possible).

Outside of the Hiwatt, every amp I own was either currently or at sometime mocked. I love the scruffy underbelly of tone. Vintage SS stuff can rock relentlessly! Hell an old Shure Vocalmaster PA screams holy hell when pushed! A very fun hobby, esp cause most folks could care less..

Absolutely. I really think your gloss should be changed. It's not bad as it is, but you really are an "amp archeologist". You dig up these old dinosaurs that noone else gives a rat's patoot about and you literally show us why we should give a rat's patoot about them. If that isn't what an archeologist does, I don't know what they do... Though I feel the same way you do about these sort of amps, I can't hold a candle to the vast array of cool amps you've collected over the years (and I've had more than a few).
