Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

Hey all,

I'm getting the itch to get a new Jackson guitar and think I might as well just go nuts deep and get the USA Soloist model. They come in a H/S/S configuration and I work prefer an H/H configuration, only because that's what I'm familiar with.

For playing extreme metal, would the H/S/S setup be good or H/H?

My only other preferred feature is it be the T model without the floyd rose trem, since the only trems I ever cared for are PRS trems. My buddy has a Jackson RR3 and a Fernandez Revolver with the licensed Floyd Rose trems and I could just never learn to dig them.

The model I was looking at was the SL1T.

And I would love to see your Jackson Soloist so post pictures!!!

You'd probably like the SL2HT. It has a '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge, Gotoh tune-o-matic bridge, and strings through the body. There have been some archtop versions, and those are probably pretty sweet.

Yeah, I just got off my lazy ass and went to Jackson's site and found that one.

Can anyone comment on H/H vs. H/S/S Jackson soloists?

Re: Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

My SL3 is a Japanese Soloist with a Floyd copy (now a real Floyd), a JB in the bridge, and Hot Rails neck & middle. I really like it. It's not better or worse than an H-H setup -- just different. The only weakness might be if the middle pickup gets in the way of your picking. Sometimes that bugs me, though not necessarily in that guitar. I like being able to get some sounds out of it that are remotely Strat-like. I put a Superswitch in it, so I can run the neck pickup in series, in parallel, one coil of each of the neck & middle pickups in parallel, the middle pickup series by itself, or the bridge pickup series by itself. Those first three positions are pretty cool, and I use them all the time for clean stuff.

The SL2HT will be especially nice if you like neck humbucker sounds. It won't sound exactly like a Les Paul, or an SG, or what have you, but it will be a lot closer than a Hot Rails will. The middle pickup selector position puts the two humbuckers in parallel with each other, which is a sound you won't get anything close to with the SL1(T). My SL2HT is my main guitar now, and (with an A2 magnet in the '59) gives me enough versatility to do 90% of the things I need to do with an electric guitar.

Re: Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

I was about to grab a H-s-s body, for my incredible MIJ jackson Pro neck, however i realesed the middel pickup on a Jacskon is as useless as tits on a boar hog. In fact, my other Japanese Solist with H-S-S has a Duncan Crazy8 in the bridge, a Dummy middle , and a Duncan JBjr Bridge in the neck. That way in the three way I get the Crazy8 bridge, Crazy8-JBjr in the middle , and the JBjr neck.
I don't like a Middle pickup in a Jackson.

Only if you see it that way. People see the pointy headstock and the sharkfin inlays, and they decide that it's a metal guitar that can't do anything else. That's crap.

Re: Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

Not really. I'll see if I can find a picture of them, though.

Know; I don't like a middle pickup on a Jackson, useles as all hell...but that body is gorgeous. I would put a dummy in the middle with a 3 way switch and then I'd be set. UI'd put a JB bridge and a Fast Track II in the neck.

Damn. Those are some very nice guitars you have there.

I think the SL2HT will probably be the way I'll go. I just love the Jackson compound radius neck. That's what sold me on Jacksons. Even picking up PRS Custom 22/24's today feels weird... and I've owned 6 PRS guitars at one point.

You said that before. It's purely a matter of opinion. I personally wouldn't have much use for it either if it weren't for the Superswitch and how it lets me split the two Hot Rails and take a coil of each and combine them in parallel. It's kind of like a fat, loud, dark version of the #2 position on a Strat.

UI'd put a JB bridge and a Fast Track II in the neck.

They already come with JB's in the bridge.

My SL2H (H/H) is in Metallic Black. I'm sure you can just imagine it. H/H is probably your best bet. The amplifier is what's going to make your music extreme, the Soloist just gives you versatile tones other than just ones for Metal. The c.r. neck is pretty cool, and it just sounds fantastic under a fat gain.

Go get 'em. :14:

You may consider the Mark Morton sig guitar, 2 duncans already in it, it shreds.

Might be a nice choice if you prefer a 22-fret neck and a more Les Paul-ish control arrangement.

Re: Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

And a fat and wide neck. I like the Morton but honestly the one thing I'd change is the neck/nut width.

The SLS3 is 2-hum, but it's the Superlight (thin) body that not everyone digs. The USA SLS is hit or miss in terms of appeal. An older one with 22 frets might be your thing, or the more recent ones with 24 frets might be a better fit. Either way, it's a slightly different body contour than the standard Soloist body (SL1, SL2H) as well as being thinner.

I already have an SLSMG and replaced the EMG 81/85 setup with Duncan Blackouts Metal in the bridge and a Livewire Classic II in the neck.

You wanna talk about an UPGRADE!!!

Re: Which Jackson Soloists come in an H/H configuration?

As mentioned you want the SL2HT.
You may want to look at the Jackson Stars also.
But, it's a single pickup.

Parker Fly.

Some of the older models (pre Washburn) were offered with a fixed bridge.
That being said, the Parker Trem can be set to 3 settings Floating, dive only, or fixed position.
So, just set it to fixed and throw the arm in the case or kitchen drawer.

Quality wise they are all great and pretty close on par with each other.
It's really going to boil down to your personal preferences. Looks, feel, sound, etc...
