Which kind of pickups fit a Hofner 176?

Hej there,

I'm thinking of buying a used hofner 176, specifically this model:

I absolutely LOVE the looks of it, but I'm not very happy with the original hofner pickups on it. My question is: if I wanted to change the pickups, what kind of pickups would fit into the space of the originals? Does anybody have any experience with this? I would love to have a SD splittable humbucker in the neck and bridge position (maybe with a triple shot?) and a Lollar gold foil pickup in the middle position. Now I just don't wanna buy the guitar and pickups and them find out, that the pickups are way too large and that I have to do major re-cutting of the body to fit them...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Those are Franz Pix 511s and not a standard humbucker size.

The Creamery makes replacements using custom parts they had to have manufactured. You could see if they could do something in the wind and parts to alter the sound how you want.

Wow, that is one seriously strange guitar!
The Custom Shop can rewind the stock pickups to get whatever sound you are looking for, as well. This might be cheaper than specially-built replacements.
