Which Lunch box?

Re: Which Lunch box?

You can run these in the current Tweaker now as well.

Yup, glad I sent the Pico back and got the Tweaker. The Pico sounded nice, but mine had been dropped and kept cutting-out. I was mainly hearing Marshall tones in the Pico. Never got a chimey, glassy Fender tone. Whereas the Tweaker's got Fender, Marshall, and even higher-gain Soldano style tones in there. And you can swap-out tubes just like with the Pico. The only advantage that I would say the Pico has over the Tweaker, is the low wattage setting which did quiet things down a LOT. The Tweaker is downright LOUD unless you keep the master down.

Re: Which Lunch box?

Seems like the Tweaker is gaining popularity quickly, so I made it a point to try it yesterday.

I also tried the Marshall Class 5, and the Rebel 30 head. Cliffs notes for those two amps are this. Class 5 sounded ok, but was a bit dark. Pretty loud for a 5 watt 110. Rebel 30 was more to my liking, but the tube blend and adjustable wattage features didn't really have much effect. Still had a core tone no matter how you set those controls.

The Tweaker, on the other hand, is more to my liking. The switches actually make a difference you can appreciate right away. The setting I dug best at the time was the AC, set on hot mode with the deep engaged, and vintage voicing to the power amp. Tasty.

I'd have to take it to the stage to find what really works best, but I'm positive it's possible to get whatever sound I need out of that thing. If they made a footswitch to go between modes and voicings, it would be nirvana.

Aside from the tone shaping, though, is how loud that dang thing was. When the master goes from just past noon to just past 1 o'clock, the volume just leaps out of the speaker.

Same thing with the gain. Just past 1 o'clock, it gets dirty fast. It would be possible to do a gig without a pedal with this amp. I'd still take at least one booster though.

Mesa Transatlantic might be better overall, but at the price a Tweaker would come in used, it's my lunchbox of choice.

Re: Which Lunch box?

I have not worked to set up my gain pedals yet with my tweaker. I have used various delays, reverbs and chorus through the loop but not gain pedals so far ... well save I had to try a muff (Civial War - SUF) and Whiteface Rat Reissue. Just because I wondered. All sounded good. Now 40-50 hours on my Blue dog I am liking it better as well. Works nice with this amp.

Re: Which Lunch box?

I have a $100 epiphone valve junior. its pretty sweet, but 5watts and 8'' speaker add up to not able to climb over the drumming volume. Im not buying anything for a year but I was considering:

fender pro junior
fender blues junior
egnater tweaker combo
orange tiny terror 1x10

tiny terror is winning out, I love oranges and it is ONLY $550 and Weight: 33 lbs:

Re: Which Lunch box?

When I was a kid, I had a Rat Pack lunchbox.

I can remember going through several lunchboxes trying to find the right one.

I started out with a Mork and Mindy one then graduated to the A-team.

I finally setteld in on a 6 million dollar man. good tones to be had.
