Which middle pickup for YJM Fury Bridge and Neck

Re: Which middle pickup for YJM Fury Bridge and Neck

Gonna be an awesome guitar! Please keep us posted with the progress!

Well, you could cancel noise if you blend a rw/rp middle pickup with coil cuts from the YJMs. This doesn't sound like you are going for a traditional Strat notch position sound, though.

Good idea! I will consider this.

Just get the full YJM set and save the $25 on the tuners.

In a project like this the trick is to know where to compromise and where to avoid compromises. When it comes to the mechanics of a guitar I am reluctant to go for any compromises, hence the MJT body, the roasted maple Warmoth neck with SS frets and compound radios, the Gotoh 510 bridge and the 510 tuners. I could probably have spent even more on another possibly even better bridge (Wudtone, Callaham etc), but if a 510 is good enough for Suhr, then I felt comfortable to compromize a little bit there when I found a second hand one in mint condition. The budget for this guitar is unfortunately not limitless.

I didn't want to compromise on the bridge pickup on this guitar, because that's the one I will use more than 90% of the time. I was even considering ordering a custom pick guard routed for just one pickup, one volume and perhaps tone, but I prefer the classic look so I decided to fill all the holes in the pick guard at as a low cost as possible.

But I have actually raised the budget a couple of times already. I went for a YJM Fury in the neck position instead of a used FS-1, because I will probably enjoy it more and it's a position that I will probably use frequently. I didn't go for a set of standard Gotoh Kluson tuner when I realized that the locking, level adjustable 510s were probably worth the extra cost etc, etc. But I can't justify the cost a third YJM Fury, because I probably won't need that sound and some other pickup type would probably be more useful for me. It will also be fun to experiment a bit here or just stick with the no-cost one I found in the basement and perhaps get something more useful and serious later when I know what this guitar will sound like. Who knows, it may be a third YJM after all... :)

You won't regret going Roasted Maple with Stainless Steel. Excellent choice!

It is your guitar, but nothing wrong with a set of vintage tuners. I think you will be happier with a matching center single for the quack positions.

That's an awesome looking Strat execpt for that Roland style pickup by the bridge and the tone knobs. Would look much cleaner without them in my opinion... I also think black covers and knob(s) like his last sig guitar would be a much nicer look and it also has that "Ritchie Blackmore" look to it...

Back on topic;...
I agree with either getting a used middle pickup from an American Strat or simply putting a dummy pickup in it to fill the hole. Or have another pickguard made, which would look much cleaner in the end..

A dummy pickup that is used to cancel hum would be a cool idea, too.

I love that Blackmore strat (it has a set neck, too), but I've never actually seen him use one. When it came out, he pretty much stopped playing electric guitar.

The standard Gotoh vintage tuners are just fine. I have a set on my Warmoth-tele. But this one has a trem and I'd like to try a set of vintage looking tuners which doesn't require string trees och for just a little bit extra I can have the lock feature as well, so I will go for them this time.

I would get the full set, neck middle and bridge. They are great pickups, but they are different, and when I used them, they required quite a different EQ on the amp than my other traditional single coils did to get the best tone out of them.
