Which Mini-humbucker?

Hey all. I'm looking for a mini humbucker that can blend well with a JB.

The guitar in question is an Epi Alleykat (yep, I got it). It has a 24.75" scale maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, a hollow mahogany body that's similar in construction to PRS's Hollowbody, and a flamed maple top.

I want to be able to cover blues, rock, and maybe some jazz with this guitar. In the bridge, I currently have a JB, which i must admit, sounds incredible in this particular guitar.

I already have a SM-1 in the neck of my tele, and while I really like it there, I fear it might not have enough punch to keep up with the JB at the bridge.

Any suggestions? I was also thinking of the Antiquity mini, just because I like the adjustable poles of the original and I might like to keep the look.

have No fear,
the neck posistion gets much more string movement then the bridge posistion, this make the necks louder anyways. and you can raise them up close for even more volume.
The JB will not over power SD's mini humbuckers of your choice.

Little 59' might fit you pretty well. I'd also take a look at the Cool Rails if you're looking for that thicker, PAF'ish type tone.

I wouldn't worry about output, because the stock epi mini blows-out the stock epi bridge in that guitar anyway. A hotter bridge pickup is what that guitar needs in the first place.

I took the epi mini out of my Alleykat and replaced it with a Gibson firebird and it was way too hot and bright....no jazz/mellow sounds with that one so I put the epi back in. But then, since I still had the gibson firebird left over, I had the guitar routed and added the gibson firebird in the middle. Best of both worlds.

So I'd say try keeping the epi mini in there first, but if you must replace it try an Epi-mini variety (like the antiquity) not a firebird variety.

I need a mini humbucker like on a Firebird or a LP Deluxe, not a single coil sized 'bucker.

I tell ya Benjy..I don't have any exp w/ the Duncan mini's....but the mini's that Gibson puts in the current LP deluxes are a damn fine pup. When I got that guitar I already made up my mind I was gonna go with duncans based on my experience with a 70's LP Dlx I had years and years ago.

When I plugged that guitar in I was amazed at the tone...and totally forgot about changing pups...if fact..the only recent guitar I've had where I didn't even *consider* it once I got the guitar.

With a good piece of wood like that MF LPD had, those Gibson mini's are very sweet...neck or bridge!

I tried a firebird style ESP that had 3 Duncan Seymourized Minis in it and I really liked them. They have a bar magnet with rails under the cover so there wouldn't be a problem with dropout.
