Which neck pickup

Hi, I have been hoarding cream pickups and have just scored a double cream duncan distortion to go into the bridge of a LTD EC400AT.

I have these double cream pickups:
Duncan custom
Dimarzio Paf (original)
Dimarzio air classic
Dimarzio virtual paf
Dimarzio virtual hot paf

Which of these do you think would go best with the duncan distortion? I love the dimarzio paf neck, but already have a Super D/Paf set in another lester so am tempted to branch out a little.

Re: Which neck pickup

The Custom will not be so great in the neck I think. I would go with the virtual paf. The jazzb might be a good match for a superD.

The air classic is very smooth. The virtual hot paf is a great bridge pu but might balance well with the beast in the bridge.
I suspect the old style PAF is the best neck companion of the group, but you already have that.
The air norton is a pickup to consider if you love dimarzio.

Re: Which neck pickup

The Air Classic could match up pretty well with the DD, The 36th PAF is a very cool pup no matter where it is....

Re: Which neck pickup

I have a Duncan Custom in the neck of my #1 Les Paul, but it's wired in parallel. It's bright and chimey, kinda piano like. I did it on a whim at least 5 years ago and I can't find a reason to swap it for anything else. Playing clean its the best I've ever heard. Think the opening riff of "Enter Sandman" or Candlebox's "Far Behind".......just my $0.02USD

Interesting, given that neck pickups need to be bright and clear have always wondered why pickup makers dont exploit parallel wiring to achieve this. Have you got any clips of the custom neck pickup?

That's pretty interesting. I never would've thought a Duncan Custom would be any count in the neck position of a guitar.

Sorry, no clips!!!

Gotta think outside the box! Unfortunately you lose the hollowed out Les Paul neck tones (Slash-Tone) that Les Paul's are known for.......but it works well for my cover-band. I was always gonna wire up a Triple-Shot ring on it to make it a little more versatile, but I've never been hopeful that a Custom wired in series would be much use in the neck........split might be cool tho!
