Which OD for my Pro Junior?

Okay!

Lets see what Overdrive pedal you'd recommend me to bring some Tweedish overdrive tones from my Pro Junior...

I have especially one in mind, but I'm like to see some suggestions and such. So the word is free! :laugh2:

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

If you want basically want the tone it already has but with more gain, I'd try an MXR Micro Amp or something similar. Your goal should be simply to overload the input stage of the amp to make it sing. With a tiny amp like the PJ, you don't really need to add any grit.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

I can get darn close to my Tweed Deluxe with my Blues Jr and the Silver Drangon on channel 1. A smoother than tweed vibe can be had with the SD Twin Tube Classic.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

You're right ratherdashing... I need the OD mostly for getting overdrive at lower volumes... it has enough on it's own when playin it loud!

Bluesbreaker pedal would be a cheap alternative for sure.

The silver dragon is too big with too many knobs, I know I'm a simple purist :D I want to keep this a really few knobed, pure simplicity rig with one small OD for low volume occations.

I was thinking a HAO Sole Pressure:

Any comments on that one? I know it's said to be a quite bass heavy pedal. But at low volumes with a 10" Jensen I don't think it's gonna cause any problems. I'm setting this up as my singlecoil Tele rig.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

Well, do you want the tone or the look? The knobs are no more so than my other OD pedals. Gain, Level, Treble and bass. Do not use channel 2 if you do not need it.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

In this case, I want it all! ;)

Tone, looks, portability... One small pedal with one small amp, one cord between them.

Hopefully I find something that has just 1-3 knobs... I'm ready to ditch EQ possiblities on the pedal to keep really stripped down. The Pro Junior has just Vol knob and Tone knob, the pedal shouldn't have more either.

You see, I'm not flaming the Silver Dragon or any other larger two channel pedal or anything... In the right rig and the right place the are an awsome solution. It's just in this case I've decided to put up a really "stripped down" rig.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

I'm using a power break with my Pro Jr. for lower volume situations since it gets dirty so fast...no real need for a dirt pedal IMO unless I need more for solos and whatever.

BTW, which Jensen did you put in? Did it open the amp up any? I've got the stock speaker in my blonde Jr. and overall the amp is pretty dark and maybe a bit muddy at times, depending on the guitar.

Love the thickness though, I wouldn't want to lose any of that.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

Yeah I was thinking about getting a attenuator instead... a 15w Weber. That or a OD/Booster thing.

It's a Jensen P10Q. I haven't got it yet though...it's on it's way. So I'll write some report and maybe some soundclips after I installing it. I bought it without speaker so I've only played it through my Bluesbreaker combos two greenbacks. But that sounds very good as well!

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

i've heard good things about the Sole Pressure and the V-stack Tweedy!

my tech 21 tri-od has a good tweed channel on it too!

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

MXR Micro Amp - I love mine and DO NOT recomend it on that amp.

And, if you are taking the amp anywhere volume/tone should NOT be an issue

Love it for what it is...

Get a Tube Screamer for quiet time. Not the Tweediest thing around, but tasty in any event. For Tweed with one small amp I use the Tweed setting on my cube 30! Way better solution....

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

Even though I have the power break I still use a Boss EQ for a straight up boost.

Maybe push 800Hz a bit & roll off some 100Hz or whatever the low band is...but it's pretty much a "more" pedal then a gain thing.

There might be a fuzz around too but that's a whole other deal!

That's exactly what I would have recommended. I played through a deluxe reverb at Willie's, and really liked that set-up-It did not impress me as too bass-heavy, though...

That said, I realize the DR not a pro jr-so my statements may not hold much water. HAO makes nice stuff FWIW.

Re: Which OD for my Pro Junior?

Just to inform you guys! I just sold my Ibanez TS808 Reissue and ordered a Sole Pressure.

I never really bonded with the ts808. Especially when I play mostly at home. It sounds good when boosting an more or less cranked amp. But not at low voumes, imo.

It worked well in front of the V-Stack Classic but when I tried to play Guitar-V-Stack-amp. The V-Stack cleans up so much better than when having the TS808 in front of it. Even if it's off it still makes a diffrence.

So well, I decided to let it go to someone who has more use for it. And get a Sole Pressure to my "Fender tweed-style rig".

In fact I've stripped down the Bluesbreaker rig now aswell. So I'll end up with to super simple rigs, but that's what I enjoy the most after all:

Telecaster Lite Ash - Sole Pressure - Tweed Pro Junior

Thursday Burst - V-Stack Classic - Bluesbreaker combo

OK, so my post might be a bit on the "late" side of things, but i'll post any ways !

I have the 'lil Pro Jr's biger brother, the Blues Jr. !

I love that amp !

Even thought i have (unlike you with the Pro Jr.) a vol. & Master vol. knob, i love external OD's every now and a gain.

So, FWIW, here are all of my dirt boxes, that i use with great sucsess with my little screeeamer :

* Big Muff NYC
* MXR Jimi Hendrix Fuxx Unit
* BD-2 (stock)
* SD-1 Keeley '5 Star mod'
* MXR ZW44 - very underrated IMO
* MXR Micro Amp
* Technophobia RAT

...more about my RAT :

But, to get back to your very first question:

. . . an OD, that will make your lil Pro Jr. sing like a Tweed ?

I am also on the lookpout for just that, and here is what i came up with !

#1) Toadworks, LIL LEO:
http://www.pedalgeek.com/cgi-bin/new_shop.cgi?config=&uid=xBn_wwAA1157659965&command=link--twll

Designed to make your clean channel sound like a hard driven TWEEDY !

#2) Toadworks, Deathrattle (best of both worlds !)
http://www.pedalgeek.com/cgi-bin/new_shop.cgi?config=&uid=xBn_wwAA1157659965&command=link--twdr

Gives you a TWEED & PLEXI tone in one stompbox !!!

I am also looking into some of the more "sedated" pedals from Effector 13.
The "05 Clipping Boost" & "kP"

There you go !

And i feel bettr now that you know !

SirJackdeFuzz: What is the Technophobia Rat you are talking about and where can I read about it?

eresseraca: Best of luck with the Soul Pressure...I recently tried a Rust Driver and really liked it but ended up passing on it since I shoudl be getting my Tim and my KOT really soon...I hope!
