Which one do you feel is the best? Standard tremolo bridges

In terms of playability,stability,tone and range (consecutively)?

Here's the list:
- Wilkinson/Gotoh
- PRS tremolo
- G&L Dual Fulcrum
- Vintage 6-point Fender tremolo
- Fender American Std 2-point tremolo
- Callaham tremolo

Also please give your reason and tell me specific model of trem that you like best.. :thanks:

And another question to give me some knowledge :D
- Which is better, 2-point or 6-point?
- Where I can find any upgrade for this kind of bridge (i.e. brass saddle,brass block,etc)?
- Could this kind of trem hold stable in recessed setup (assume the guitar is properly set up)?


Don't get me wrong,I just wanna get educated. My love to my Floyd Rose trem will never die. :headbang:

many people have different opinions on bridges... i'm more of modern strat fan then a vintage strat fan so i like the American Standard style bridges... more so i like the older soild saddles, not so much the newer version of the American Standard bridge with the bent metal saddles...

the 2 post trems for me function better in their movement... my Custom Shop 66 strats 6 screw trem can be a good trem to use no problem but the floating American Standard and most 2 posts trems fuctions better in movement....

and i prefer the way a 2 post sets up for up pull... the vintage trems you have to basicly set it tilted forward... two post trems stay flush with the body face more...

that being said the PRS is the best of both worlds.... it is 6 screws and it floats above the guitar face like a 2-post would...

Vintage 6-point. Give me a well made one and there's no need for anything else.

Wilkinson VSV400.

6-point (better feel and tone IMO) plus
Oval-shaped screw holes (so that it won't bind)
A THICK term block
Bent steel-style saddles but re-engineered so that they feel smooth and sound the same
Smooth to the touch and sleek looking.

From that list, the Wilkenson feels the best to me. My favorite so far is the TransTrem on my Steinberger- I love being able to keep chords in tune up or down. I did read about this, which looks interesting too.

I had one on a Greg Bennett PRS copy and it was just perfect

I have a Callaham vintage style and I like it a lot. For me the best things about it are the way the bar goes into the block - - much better than the normal Fender way. Also the block is better and, the way it keeps the ball end of the string near the end of the block prevents string breakage extremely well.

I have some experience with a certain Wilkinson and I liked it except the the way the arm goes into the block. It was not solid and it clicked when moved. Other models have a different problem with the bar. It depends on the one you get.

I haven't used the other kinds listed so I can't comment. If you want an upgrade for a vintage style Fender trem, Callaham is the way to go.

Anyone ever tried it yet?
Once I read the website,the first thing I do is see all their videos from youtube,and I tell you that this new kind of trem is SUPER AWESOME!!
But the only thing that kinda put me off is the sharp end of trem which you have to be extremely careful and develop your right-hand technique to not go anywhere but the bridge itself. :lmao:

I love the Callaham tremolo. I think that, for me it has teh best feel and sound and the design is great.

That said, there are a lot of guys that will poo poo the Callaham claiming that it's all voodoo, nojo, fairy dust and snake oil...

FWIW, manyof the guys that dis the Callaham hjave never tried one...

As for the rest of your question...you do not recess a vintage style tremolo.

Two point trem for me, although I'd go for a Schaller if I had the cash over a wilkinson.

I haven't tried one, but want to. I like the idea that you can bend whatever strings you want, while keeping some of them un-bent...instant pedal steel effects! I am happy people are re-thinking the trem though...it really has been pretty much the same since the first Strat trem...yeah, they can add clamps, better blocks, etc, but we are still left with the same idea- a bar is used as a lever to tilt the bridge.

I like a sorta custom one I made. I had a normal vintage-style, 6 screw vibrato, but removed the vintage saddles for American Strat Saddles. Works surprisingly well. And that's without a graphite nut or locking tuners. Only require the occasional retune.

Play a note and grab....while it is cool with all individual levers....it kinda takes a really good player to make it sound interesting, saw Matthias Eklundhs name on their site...
Wonders what he could make with it.....
Or someone with big ambient noises going on.....
Sometimes I have used my Floyds saddles for an bending up thing, if it was a push down only setup.
But anyways, while interesting as it is, it will be difficult for most to get it sound good I guess!

My first guitar ever had a Floyd Rose and as far as feel, I love a good Floyd.

As far as more traditional trems, I really like the Wilkinson that came on a couple Hamer USA Daytons that I have. I believe the Daytonas came with a VSVG before they were officially given that name. The PRS trems are really nice as well.
