I have a LP DC. it is warmer than the SG, thats all there is too it. you have the solid mahagony body with the maple cap working together to give a great balance unlike the solid and thiner mahagony body of the SG.

you also have no weight issues like with the SG. SG's commenly have a problem with being top heavy, the LP will deffinitly not have this problem. so personally i prefer the LP DC over the SG any day

but i might be a little partial :22:

Solid mahogany working with the maple cap for a good balance is a good point and a big reason I always come back to that design and will probably always play guitars with that design and construction. I find SGs a little uncomfortable compared to LPs and I always find 24 fret guitars uncomfortable so that leaves me with singlecut arch tops as the most comfy for me by far. I had a doublecut Hamer and found it thin next to my singlecuts.

I think my next guitar would be a PRS McCarty or Dean Hardtail.

I'd say the DC in your case but maybe find one with tone chambers as I think the tone may be bigger.

Someone just pointed out that the DC is not a solis body guitar it is actually has a chambered mahogany body.

I do agree with you about the single cut. A DC can't be compared with a single cut. The single cut will have more rich deep tone and sustain than the DC, I don't think there is any doubt with that. Altough about being comfortable, I kind of tend to disagree with that toought. IMHO I htought the single cut made reaching hose last frets a challenge at least for me. That's why I thought about the DC. But there is no questions about tone though.

I'd keep the SG and buy the DC. Both is better than just one. :smack:

Have thought of it a lot. Just don't know if I could justify having two expensive guitars at the same time, with a very expensive Boutique amp, cab, boutique pedals, custom drums (8 piece) and an electric kit as well........

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

I love my SG both sound wise and playability wise. I simply can't work a Les Paul like it should mainly due to the heel. The SG on the other hand I can rip with. Both the LP and SG are great sounding guitars with their own flavor.

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

Item 1: Les Paul Doublecuts are PRS McCarty copies
Item 2: SGs are awesome, and you already have one
Item 3: There's no such thing as too much music gear

Keep your SG and buy a McCarty or a Dean Hardtail. You'll get the same features and probably more than with the Doublecut and you won't seem like a Gibson fanboy. :D

Oh yeah and get some Fenders, Jacksons, ESPs, G&L's, BC Rich's........

How does the SG reacts with your Soldano???? That is one great amp.

Hahhahahahaha, I guess it never ends........ :burnout:

I thought the DC came out first then PRS copied the style?
I agree with the hard tail mighty guitar. I had a dean and it was a great guitar.....their customer service is not the best but the guitar quality is very appreciative.....

With the JB in the bridge and '59 in the neck it reacts GREAT. I wasn't real happy with the Custom in the bridge. But with the current setup, I can do out and out metal or do a 180 and get really nice cleans out of it.

I knew the Soldano would handle the high gain stuff with clarity....but I've really surprised at how good the cleans are out of it on the "normal" channel.

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

I am thinking of changing pups for a jazz model and a super distortion on bridge, but haven't desided yet.....

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

Oh BTW found a bit more about the chamebered body and it does play an important roll on the guitar sound. Is not the same as in the Standard single cut.

yeah they kind of slide down when you play them. Which DC you have the classic, Standard or Faded? what pups you have on them? what colour?

hey, sorry about the delayed answer.. i have the classic.. personally i like it better than the standard because the maple tops no the standard are a little much. i have the gold top classic

the reason i bought it?.. i loved and still love my Agile 2500 LP DC.. its got a C5/Jazz set in it now (amber top) and sounds and looks killer

the classic is stock until a couple paychecks away

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

I have an Agile 2500 LP DC as well. I really like it, so I'd say DC. I don't really like SGs all that much...

Question: didn't Ibanez first come out with the LP DC way back when?

Good question about the ibanez???

Re: which one you prefer SG or LP?

Don't get rid of the SG. If you absolutely have to have a Les Paul Double Cut, get the very best one made: the Hamer USA Studio. That's what I did!

Actually you can get the DC as solid or chambered depending on the model.

Your other comment is why I think I'll like the Dean Hardtail. Look at the design...like a cross between a double cut and single cut design. Plus, great upper fret acces according to many.

SGs can sound a little one dimensional to me. I think I'd still want one someday and a Dean Hardtail, PRS McCarty...etc...etc...!!!!!!

Dean has some of the best customer service in the industry.

He has to think about playability also and vibe. I had a Hamer USA Studio but sold it because I prefer the way Gibsons feel and play. That includes the Gibson DC. My LP Standard sounds so much better than my '96 Hamer Studio but maybe I had a bad one.
