Which PAFs for a '58 Korina V?

Just got my '58 korina v and the bridge pup has got to go. i was thinking a Seth Lover neck and a WCR Goodwood bridge. what does everybody have in their korina V's ?

these are what i had in mind:

Seth Lovers (gold cover)
Antiquities
Wagner Goodwoods (gold cover)

after playing on it for a few hours, i like the neck pup but HATE the bridge. the tone im looking for is woody, honky mids, and somewhat nasal.and the neck has that Albert King/Freddie King vibe which i like.but im wondering if a Seth Lover or a Wagner would be better. i definitely need a bridge though what do you recommend for blues?

unfortunately no, but its a really nice axe.:bling:

any suggestions for a bridge humbucker? preferably a PAF

Re: Which PAFs for a '58 Korina V?

The Antiquitys have the woody tone you are looking for but there is very little honk in the Ant's, the Seths have a bit more honk but less of that woody tone...

Im not sure if your V is limba wood or bot but FWIW, I have a Moderne that is limba and I have a set of Pearly Gates in that guitar and it smokes!

i thought about the Antiquities, but have heard their kinda weak and low output because of the aged magnets.

i am considering putting some Antiquity(Surfers or Texas Hots) in my ' 67 strat. which set for Hendrix?

The Seth bridge is very honky. It really barks (in a good way) with OD.

I do NOT find the Antiquity's are weak at all...that said if you wanted a little more push you could put full strength magnets in them.

As for the Strat pickups the Surfers would be much closer for a Hendrix vibe

I put a set of antiquities in a '58 Korina Explorer and it sounds fantastic, I wouldn't hesitate a bit with them or the Seth's

how's the Seth bridge?

Good choice! Those are just like the pickups that would have come in a real '58 V.

Surfers.

Or if you want a noiseless Strat pickup that sounds almost identical to the Surfer go for the new Classic Stack Plus.

The Antiquity Humbuckers don't sound weak, BTW. They just sound old! Old like the pickups in a '58 or '59 Les Paul.

I love my Seth in my "V". I also love Albert King's tone, and that is what I was shooting for with the Seths. I think I might try a PG in there though since I hear Albert's tone as being brighter than the Seths. I suppose it could have been those SS Acoustic amps he used though...

I dunno what amp Albert used to record Born Under Bad Sign...I doubt Acoustic Amps even existed at that time. :) I alwasy figured it was some kind of Fender in the Stax studio.

You're probably right, even though I don't think his tone changed all that much later on. Maybe a little different character in his distortion. Do you think the PG's would get into Albert territory?

Sure...long as you're playing with your thumb in Albert's open C tuning on a guitar strung upside down. :laugh2: Lew

Ha! Ha! SRV could pretty close with a Strat tuned standard, but a half step down. I'm not one of those who say "it's all in the hands", but in Albert's case I might be more willing to believe it.

It's the hands, the phrasing, the notes, the soul, the talent, etc.

Pretty much everything! :) I think the gear is probably the least important...although it IS important.

SRV had it all.
