Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

I was watching old Metallica clips, and stumbled over the moscow 1991 clip of Creeping Death, and I really like Kirks Lead tone at 2:30, it has more cut and clarity than nowadays in my opinion.

What does the pedal experts think I should throw infront my ENGL Screamer to get a lead tone like it?

Thanks alot :)

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

I think he just left his wah in one spot for a change :bigthumb:

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

Naah he didnt, because all the leads from that tour sound pretty much that way on the A Year and a Half DVD :)

And Wahs rule.

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

Wahs rule under the toes of VERY few.

Kirk is not in that group :laugh2:

On a serious note, alot of his stuff from then sounds like his typical MESA rig for the time goosed with a Tubescreamer.

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

I know, it just leaves me puzzled. He used MESAs on the Cunning Stunts dvd as well, but his lead tone was more laid back, not as defined and clear as this.

Kirk is THE Wah pwnage.

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

He has typically used a TS-9 to push his amps, but he has recently been endorsing Damage Control pedals. If you have an Engl, try different overdrive pedals, such as Tube Screamers, Bosses, the DOD 250, etc.

Pretty much. Sounds like there's some light modulation effect going on in that Creeping Death clip, which I personally think isn't a necessary touch. However, as a whole, that video kicks maximum arse!

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

Kirk should be shot with a waaaah...hate it!

I'm gona take a guess that it's from elfen lied, am I right?

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

Almost no one can use a wah correctly. Most guys use it to make their sloppy solos sound ok. In Kirk's situation...I can't stand any of his solos past MOP. Someone needs to take away his wah because it sounds like ****.

I think in Kirk's Situation... He ran out of creative licks. So it's just a case of stepping on the Wah and rehashing his old Ideas. IMHO :)

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

Guess its a TS-9 then.

What is the big difference in sound between a Analogman TS-9/808 classic mod, a Keeley TS-9 and a Maxom OD9? Which one is closest to the classic TS sound?

ditto Rid, I dont know how Kirk thinks he is Gods gift to the wah but he overuses it on way to many solos and generally makes his tone worse that it is naturally. He should be shot by a wah.

Re: Which pedal for this type of lead tone?

might want to check out his gear for that album, as the solo there sounds a lot like the one on the album.
