Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

Hey guys!

After the first deal fell thorugh, I finally got my hands on another Vox AD120VTH of ebay for only $330. Now I need to be able to switch between different settings/patches. I want to be able to cycle through all of the possible patches as well as be able to recall the most recent patched used before the current one. So if I am modeling a blackface 2x12 for some clean work then switch to the SLO100 model for distortion, I dont want to have to completely cycle through the other 6 programs in that channel before coming to my desired patch, that just doesnt seem efficient. I know the VC12 can do this, but what about the VC 4? Where can I get both of these, besides MF.com?

Thanks a ton guys!

I just bought the AD60VTH with the VC-4 and I might be buying another that comes with the VC-4 also. I plan on selling one of the heads but I might keep the pedal seperate and sell it to ya, if you decide you want the VC-4 over the VC-12 of course.

No. It doesn't unless you program the amp to have both patches in the same bank. The VC-12 is a much better pedal IMHO.

I use the VC4.....You have 2 modes....1 lets you use all of the stomp switches to turn on and off effects....

The second mode lets you toggle between seperate presets in banks of 4....I think you can access a total of 16 presets, but you will have to also switch the bank number from 1 to 2 etc...As an example...Lets say you have an AC/DC on bank 1 preset 1 and you want to change to your Santana preset on bank 3 preset 1.....You have to switch over to bank 3 and then click on stomp pedal switch 1.....The best thing you could do then,is to put your 4 most favorite and used presets on Bank 1 presets 1-4....This allows you to access quickly any of your favorite 4 presets....You could then do the same for bank 2,but if you decide to switch back over to bank 1,you'll have to do some quick fancy foot action! You also need to make sure all of your seperate presets have about the same volume...You don't want preset 1 to be very loud and then have preset 4 on the same bank too low...This is why I use a seperate volume pedal..

I only use my VC4 to turn on and off my effects and I use a seperate EB Volume pedal as my overall master volume pedal for the entire amp...The built in F/C on the VC4 is used to change things like chorus depth,or univibe depth etc...

You'll need to really read thoroughly through the manual also! I've had my VC4 for 2 years now w/no problems!

I've gigged quite a bit with my entire Vox setup.

So Stratdeluxer, this is what you are saying:

The VC4 allows you to basically acess 4 channels, with 4 programable patches to each channel?

So if on the first channel, I had 4 different high gain presets, and on the second channel I had 4 different clean presets, if I went from 2nd distorted preset to 1st clean preset, and then I changed back to my distorted preset channel, would that bring me to the first distorted preset on that channel or the one last used (2nd distorted preset?)

Thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it!

I'd say your best to put your most used presets all onto one bank of 4 presets....Have a mix of 1 clean tone and 3 overdriven/distorted tones or 2 clean and 2 dirty etc....You'll find out pretty quickly that you really won't need more than a few good presets...I use a really nice full sounding BF 2x12 preset w/some pedals and a Vox AC 30 and the Soldano preset...Having more than 1 banks worth of presets is overkill and a headache! LOL...

If you decide to use more than 1 bank of 4 presets, you then will have to learn to switch to the new bank and then switch to whatever preset you want....Thought I made this clear in my first post but:

Pretty much I have 1 really great BF Fender clean tone dialed in on mine and I use pedals to get my overdrive or distortion tones. With my BF preset though,I do have chorus, delay, and a univibe that I turn on and off via the toggle switches on the VC4.....If I want a different preset for my next song,I just walk over to my amp and manually switch to another bank or preset...I try to keep things simple whenever possible!

Re: Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

Got ya! Can I acess the 3 other banks via the VC4 or do I have to do that manualy via the amp? How long is he loading time between presets?

Not sure on the loading time between presets,as I say I Only use my VC4 to turn on and off effects? You need to re-read my posts cause you aren't understanding them....LOL....

Yes you can access the other banks...Read my AC/DC,Santana preset example in the first posting and "thoroughly" read the VC4 manual...Not trying to be a smarta$$,but it doesn't seem like your grasping my info about the VC4.

Re: Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

No, I am reading your posts carefuly. The one about the AC/DC- Santana example confused me somewhat and then you mentioned how you may also use the SLO100 model, I understood this as you using the VC4 to switch to that, my bad. I would read the PDF but I can not because I am legally blind and my computer program can not read PDFs, unfortunately.

Where can I get a VC4 online, does anyone know? I have only been able to find the VC12. Would the VC2simply function as being able to switch between the two different banks?

The VC12 has a recall button that takes you to the last patch you selected. This allows you to go from one bank and patch to any other with the tap of one button, but it only works between two patches. If you tap a third patch the one you were previously on and it are the new recall patches. The VC12 seems to be better built and it can store 4 entire sets of patches so you can have one set of patches for home, one set for practice, one set for performance and a fourth to experiment with.

It also makes the tuner work quite a bit better.

That sucker was pricey and not needed in my case! Ouch!

Re: Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

They aren't cheap, but I think it's a worthy investment given all it can do.

Mine cost me $200 used. That's about as steep as I was willing to go. Still haven't got everything all figured out yet with it, but I'm learning.

It's that figuring out process that I hate! I Like plugging in and playing....LOL

Re: Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

sorry to sort of hi-jack the thread.. but for you valvetronix owners what are your overall thoughts of the amp?.. does it get good clean, overdriven, AND heavy distortion sound?.. do the "neodog" speakers make a difference when you opt for the more expensive vtx line?.. also do the valvetronix line combos and speaker cabinets have some good "thump" for palm muting with modern high gain settings?

Re: Which pedals do what for Vox valvetronix series?

I think the nu-metal stuff for this amp sounds wrong without an EQ in the effects loop. The MESA patch is just nasal sounding without EQ work making it sound pretty.

Great cleans and great mid-gain sounds. High gain isn't it's forte.
