Which pickup....

Hi all, first topic for me! This is one of my guitars which started off as a Charvette 20 years ago. Since then has a proper Ffloyd Rose and a Jackson neck and has had a host of humbuckers. The current one is too trebly, no decent mid or bass. I mostly use a Gibson Les Paul 60's tribute and like good sustain and crisp distortion (google The Bophins for the band). What pickup would you go for??? No actives, never been a fan of them!

Re: Which pickup....

What is the body wood? The last Charvette that I worked on appeared to be ply. The instrument in the photograph has the look of basswood about it.

Just to annoy everybody, I am going to suggest the TB-4 JB Trembucker - possibly with an Alnico 2 magnet swap. (Buy pre-owned!)

Re: Which pickup....

Crisp distortion and good sustain probably describes a ceramic magnet. The Custom or Dimarzio Super Distortion both use ceramic magnets.

Re: Which pickup....

Guys, thanks for your replies, I just realised I'm not getting notifications when a reply is put up!!! How rude of me! It does seem to be basswood but no way of knowing really.
I've just been given a Hot Slag pickup to try, not heard of them before...

Re: Which pickup....

Does the photo show the current humbucker? If so, you may have a wiring problem because Invaders are not known for being too trebly.

Re: Which pickup....

Yeah, I had a friend who does guitars and he wired it for me. It looks like an invader but actually it's a Mad Dog made just down the road so I'm pretty sure it's the pickup. Just waiting for my new neck to arrive as well, took a chunk out of the current one!
