Which pickup?

I am playing Iron Maiden, GNR type stuff. I need humbuckers for my SG, I have decided on the DiMarzio Super Distortion for the bridge, but I have narrowed the candidates down for the neck: Alnico II or Distortion (both Duncans) or maybe a DiMarzio Super 2. Any more suitable pickups I don't know about?

Re: Which pickup?

I'd go for either the PAF Pro pro rom DiMarzio or the Duncan 59. You pick the flavor.

Re: Which pickup?

The PAF Pro looks alright but it doesn't seem to have all of the output/heaviness that Iron Maiden uses... anyone used it for this purpose?? Any other thoughts?

Re: Which pickup?

If I'm not ,mistaken, the Iron Maiden Strat from Fender comes with a JB Jr. at the bridge and a pair of Hot Rails in the neck and middle. Closest thing in an SG would be a JB at the bridge. I might be tempted to use another JB at the neck myself, but that's just me. On the Dimarzio side of things, a pair of Super Distortions ight do the trick.

Re: Which pickup?

They don't make a Super Distortion for neck and bridge, there is just THE Super Distortion I think (recommended for bridge.)

Re: Which pickup?

Get the dual sound its the same pup but with 4 cond wiring so you can split it. Dave Murrays strat he used on the powerslave video had 2 super distortions if memory recalls.

well the thing is gnr stuff and iron maiden stuff are alot diffrent, if u want gnr go for the alnico 2, and the distortion would be right for the neck if u play iron maiden; its up to u.

Re: Which pickup?

The latest I have read by the Irons is that they are using singles again in the neck (especially smith). Slash uses AIIpro. I have one of those in my LP, and it is smooth and sweet. I think it would do pretty good at both as it isn't crazy output.

Re: Which pickup?

you can use the super d in the neck, alot of people do paul gilbert did and ace frehley does.

Re: Which pickup?

Yes, Adrian Smith has singles in the middle and neck. But I know my three Maiden axemen.... haha. Smith said "I mainly play through the bridge position. I really do not ever play single coils." I read that on this very site. Dave Murray has Hot Rails in all three positions, while Jannick Gers has JB Jr.'s in the bridge and neck, and he only plays the neck position.
