Which pickups for a Gibson Sg Special Faded?

Re: Which pickups for a Gibson Sg Special Faded?

It's an old thread, but here's my 2 cents. I have an Epiphone SG G-400 with GFS Mean 90s. I really like them and think they add some personality to the guitar. But, these days, I'm wanting something different from this SG. I like the tone, but, to me, the SG asks for a little more aggressive tone. It's something completely personal, but just my feeling. I think they would do great in Les Pauls too (if I had another Les Paul, I'd might try them in it).

Have you tried different magnets in your Mean 90's? I Like an A8/A4 in the bridge. More beef, hits harder. To me, the stock A5's that most P-90's have make for a bright, thin bridge.

No, I didn't. But I think it's not about the pickups, it's about me. I like the tone, but every time I pick the sg is to play heavier songs and this kind of pickup just doesn't seem right. The place where it shines it's exactly the song I choose the Les Paul (with A2pros) to play....

By swapping magnets, you can get P-90's to sound a lot heavier. I didn't like a thin, bright bridge sound at all.
