Which PU for which guitar ?! Hard Ash vs Mahog + Maple

I have 2 Bridge HBs here. Duncan Custom (TB5) and a Wolfetone Marshallhead. They're for 2 custom 80s super strats currently being built for me.

Guitar A: Hard Ash body, maple neck + fretboard with SS frets , HSH config (APH-1 Alnico II Pro in the neck with A3 mag swap)
To be wired with a Mega switch for various coil split and combinations ie Inner coils of both HB's, middle + Neck or bridge split etc.

Guitar B: Mahogany + Flame Maple cap (like a Les Paul) with a Mahogany neck + Ebony fretboard with SS Frets. Single PU only (Bridge HB), no tone pot. Both guitars will have a Vintage 2 post non locking trem.

Wolfetone Marshallhead = Alnico 5, overwound Paf approx 9k (Like a boutique 59b with a less scooped less boomy EQ curve)
Custom = Small Ceramic, HOT, brash, tight 'PAF on roids'

Which Pickup is suited best for A or B ??

I heard the Duncan Custom is killer in LP style axes (Guitar B), but I'm not sure whether it'd be better to use the boutique A5 Wolfetone in the thicker sounding, heavier Single PU guitar and keep the Duncans together in the Ash guitar instead of mix different brands... I also question whether the Custom will be a little too harsh in a Hard Ash guitar (A) ... I do have the option of an Alnico 8 magnet for the custom just in case its needed .

I'm leaning towards sticking the Wolfetone MH in Guitar A (ash) and sticking the Custom alone in Guitar B (LP-strat)!

Sorry, I’m not familiar with the Wolfetone but my first thought was to swap the custom magnet for an A2 and put it in the ash, maple strat. :)

Thanks,

The Wolftone Marshallhead is like a boutique better made '59b with a little less mud, less scoop and a little more upper mids .

I'm not sure about the A2 custom (Custom custom) just because it may be a little mushy and I'm not sure I about an A2 in the bridge due to lack of oomph and sizzle. I naturally gravitate towards more of a VH I sound over VHii / 1984. BTW I'm not turning this into a EVH thread.... Just saying I prefer a big bold aggressive bridge pickup sound.

Get it. IMHO a Custom Custom in a strat is a thing of beauty but it’s a taste thing [emoji4]

Based on your description I would put the Wolfetone in the mahogany guitar and the custom in the ash one.

Btw, I usually associate mud with more mids and scoop with less so based on your description of less mud, less scoop it gets balanced out [emoji3]

Agreed but I would in an ash body guitar swap that Ceramic mag for a A5 for a Custom 5. I normally find the Custom 5 to be to a little to scooped but in hard ash with that high mid cut it should really be nice.

Try the custom in the Mahogany strat. It will probably need a lower value volume pot such as 250k or 300k. If you want a tone with more clarity and brightness you could change it to an A5 or unoriented A5 magnet.

Wolftone PAF style pickup should be fine in the ash body strat. The maple neck adds mids IMO.
