Bridge for rhythm (I don't know why the neck pu is supposed to be the "rhythm" pu)
I saw in a Steve Morse video that he recommends using the bridge pu for rhythm playing close to the nut, because it adds some harmonic sparkle to the lower register, where the fundamental pitches are very strong. But for rhythm playing higher up the neck, he likes to use the neck pickup for a smoother sound. That's basically what I do too, but most of my rhythm playing is down by the nut, so I use the bridge pickup for almost all my rhythm playing.

Neck for clean tones and most solos. Malmsteen solos demenad the use of a neck pickup... but I use the bridge for Randy Rhoads' solos...etc.

I view all pickups other than the bridge as novelties

Wow...

I think I'd use my neck more if I had an overdrive pedal, the DS-1 just sounds horrifying with the ddesign 7-neck X_X. I use the bridge all the time when distortion is on.

Bridge.

Clarity and tightness. I find that I can get lots of tonal variations just with volume and tone controls and picking styles. My next guitar(s) will propably only have a bridge hum.

I'm primarily a bridge HB kind of guy. I do like slow melodic leads on the neck pickup, too. But for ripping leads (which my fingers don't like to do very often) and rhythms, it's all about the bridge pickup for me. Lately, I've been all about the CC. :headbang:

I have an American Deluxe with Lil 59 in the bridge and the spin-a-split mod...

I play rhtym nearly equally in the Neck/Middle position and the Bridge position...

For leads I play mostly in the neck position, but sometimes use the bridge position to brighten up a bit....

I am VERY satisfied with the sonic capabilities of my Strat in its current configuration, but would still like to try the Antiquities in the Neck and Middle position.... I play mainly blues, blues rock, and classic rock, so I think the Texas Hots would work.. but also would like to hear the Surfers....

For the Kelly - Bridge...just seems to have more life than my neck pickup

For the Ovation Preacher - Neck, so bassy, so clean, so chunky, wonderful mini-bucker

depends..I always use my bridge for rythm in both guitars...

my lynch esp only has two positions..bridge and neck...I use neck for clean most times and I use it for legato stuff...

my ebmm axis has a three way switch on it..I usually use the middle position on that one for clean..I like that twangy, early dream theater clean sound it gets...

all this is for when I'm noodling around at home usually though..most of the songs we cover don't really call for any of this sort of thing...

Mostly bridge, but with a good clean tone with a ton of spank, I like the bridge split with middle.

Blusey leads with a good neck pup is awesome...

i use the bridge/middle combo.....it gives me some of the higher output of the bridge without the buzz of the lone coil of the pickup

I voted bridge because with my Gibson I find 490R can easily be too bassy.

But with the Epi and the splittable '59, I'm always switching depending on what I want to play. So I think this poll would need a "always switching" choice.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. :bandit:

Bridge. It's generally the brightest. I have a Strat, so very occasionally I may use Bridge/Neck combo, but only for some stuff.

I just noticed, I said Bridge/Neck, when I meant Bridge/Middle combo.

I tend to switch around a lot depending on the type of music I'm playing. In general:

Blues and clean tones: Single-coil neck.
Funky stuff: Single-coil neck, middle, or combination of the two
For rock or metal: Bridge humbucker for rhythm and either the bridge or humbucker neck for leads

100% Bridge. If I need to use the neck pickup, I dont, I just roll off on the tone knob.

This new Quarter pounder is pure insanity.
