Which pups for Ibanez 540S (METAL !) ??

Hello everybody. I just bought (today) a used Ibanez S540FM, it´s a japanese model, made somewhere between 93~97 i think, and it has Dimarzios Paf´s Pro on it ... Which i really hate, as all dimazio pups i have tested (x2n, tonezone, evo, breed....) ...

Which pups should i go... I want to nail that MoP metallica sound, yeah ... MoP, Ride The Lightning, Kill em All ... but maily focused on the MoP tone ...

The guitar is made of mahogany BTW, and i have ... a sansamp gt2, boss mt-2 as distortion/ampsimulator pedals ... those going to the dsl401...

so what you think ? emgs all the way ?

EMG's are fine for that kind of sound. They sort of force that kind of sound out of whatever guitar they're in. The PATB Distortion Bridge and PATB single and neck humbucker would absolutely kill, and offer you more versatility IMO with coil cuts, etc. I know you're not looking for a "bluesy single coil" sound, but if you cut the coils of the neck humbucker and middle stack, you'll have a glassy, cutting metal clean tone as well.

I'd go with a 59, Vintage Rail, and a Custom. This will allow you to get close to thw tones you want and give you the ability to cover a lot of other situations as well.

i modded my ibanez 540s (see my sig below), but i have no idea how to get the metal tones you are looking for .. i was looking for more versatility ... i suppose the dave mustaine active set might be pretty killer

Uhmm, but as far as SD sound clips goes, i don´t think the PATB will have enough gain for MoP tone... but i may be wrong ... what u think ?

And abut the emgs, i have another guitar, which is crap one, and its made of agathis, which is supposed to be dark like mahogany, but i find the 81 in the bridge overly bright ! ... i want something more chunky ... do you thing this pup will be the mojo onde the mahogany body of the 540S ?

No way the 59 can get close to that tone ! REALLY ? (nahh)

Distortion Mayhem set.

Get a mega 5 way "E" switch at stew-mac.

Just wired the set up last night, and it crushes. Also, I have an EMG81 running on 18 volts in another axe but I like the DD better.

If you use all the EQ and tone shaping options on your GT-6 properly you can get close to any tone with the pickups I mentioned.
