Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

I started to modify this guitar back 2004 - 2005 then cut short when the devastating news hit that we lost Darryl.. Since then, this just sat in my shop for the one day I would resume the build. I know there are several pick up set-ups to consider so I thought to ask you guys of what you think would be the best configuration for this 1 of a kind build?
I am not sure if the Pick ups we're stock or not either way any input on different types of pick ups would be greatly appreciated so I can make this build the best it can be.
I selected a Quartzite Granite called Bamboo Green that's a bit harder than typical granite but the main reason was that the color reminded me of the Dime Slim model that came out and also this material in person has a look and texture due to the fissures that makes it look allot like alligator skin.
Here is a few shots of the guitar and the stone selected.

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

'59b @ nk & Dimebucker would be obvious.

What's in it now?

I was thinking of putting a hot rod dime pick up if they exist or stock set -up. wasn't sure.
But the pups in it now is a Chinese in the neck and a SD in the bridge not sure what model it is in the bridge.. Sticker on back says IHG20 - SH6B 0117
I was thinking the stock set up as Dime had or is there options?
Sure you guys would know the best set up since I've had no time to research this.
Always best to listen to those who know.

This combination is now marketed as the Dime signature set. Its ability to approximate the man's tones might be compromised if you deviate from the regular vibrato bridge sustain block material, let alone apply a layer of granite over the guitar body.

Wait, you're making a guitar out of granite? That'll be pretty rad. But wouldn't it weigh like 80 lbs. Wouldn't it be a bi÷ch to route. Badass CNC machine?

Keep us up to date on the build.

Based on all of our prior research and prototypes, your assumptions are clearly inaccurate.
We are not trying to "COPY" the mans tone, we are merely making a modified version of what "the man" had originally.
From the may threads I've read, the Dime signature set seems to be the ticket.
Thank you :usa:

Dimebucker is what I would say! But I personally prefer the Dimebucker paired with a Screamin Demon in the neck.

And I would say the Dimebucker is one of the most misunderstood pickups...like, it is a super versatile pickup that is extremely articulate. Yes it does the Dimebag tone BUT it can handle anything from Country to Blues To Rock to Metal. I was pleasntly surprised by it, it feels very powerful but not like its too powerful.

And clarification please...are you putting a granite top on the guitar or are you making the entire guitar out of granite??

Yea, versatility is where it's at.. I was thinking to stay as close to what Dime had so I can be as accurate as possible with the tests planned once built.

None of the guitars I had done are solid since they would crazy heavy, say 30 to 40lbs..
This Dean will weigh about 7 1/2lbs when done.
Our patented process incorporates an internal apparatus embedded in the body that's made of granite which couples the energies of all the vital components and then distributes that into the top that you see which again distributes that energy back throughout the body. We also modify the Wood to a degree so that the waveform of the stone works in conjunction with the lineal wave form of the wood so there isn't phase canceling and all medias work together in harmonically unified unit.

As close to what Dime had would depend on the time frame as he used Bill Lawrences first and then Seymour Duncan BUT its a safe bet to go with the SD Dimebag Set.

If solid solid granite guitar then I was gonna say you must be building it for someone like John Petrucci

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

I had the original Bill Lawrence 500 once, the one in his earlier albums. Great pup.

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

Ok, so skinned. Still rad!

So now we'll have a whole new controversy. Tone stone, is it real?

Yea no doubt lol, There was a guy who built a solid body guitar out of stone for Roy Buchanan back in the 70's and he loved it weighing 33lbs and on a stage stand is how he played it.
I noticed that Petrucci bulked out allot when I saw him @ Winter Namm recently, just like George Lynch..

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

Petrucci would probably do curls at the same time as he's doing sweeps.

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

So how are you going to get it under 8lbs? Even a thin sheet of Granite would make me think that guitar is gonna be more than 8lbs.

In order to install a top that's .090 you have to remove the wood to make room for the stone besides what we do internally, the wood removal has a weight that offsets the weight of the stone apply'd so the overall additional weigh of the granite is very minimal..

Re: Which SD pick ups are best for this Dean ML

I was thinking these weighed more in the 10+ pound range, but checked out some reviews and several have stated theirs weigh in just at 8.

One of our Stone Tone Artists Joey Torres was @ the Dean Factory in Tampa recently and took this pic of Dimes touring rig he used before... R.I.P. brother Dime !
