Which seymour is closest to a tighter 57 classic

I love the gibson 57 classics but wondering if seymour has something that would be a bit tighter on the bass for palm mutes - the low e is quite flubby

An A5 will deliver what you're asking for, no need to change the p'up.

I'm wondering moreso for another guitar

Kojak is right about the a5 in the gibson 57...but if its for another guitar then an SD59 will give extended and firmer bass as well as much more treble detail. its a great pickup - not really what you'd call similar tho, but similar in output. However, if you want the a2 smoothness, you can steal the a2 pups from the gibson set and make a 59 a2 set for really warm and fat (much nicer than stick gibson 57s) and you can put the a5s from the 59 set into the gibson pups thereby tightening the bass and opening the tops a little too. That way you get two killer sets of pups!

+ 1.

Or you can go the extra mile and get a Seth Lover set. Best neck p'up ever!

The '59s don't cost a lot and gracefully take any magnet you can think of, they just refuse to sound BAD! ;)

As always, the A4/A8 modded '59 set is the one I can personally vouch for. That magnet combo works wonders in most Duncan p'ups.

All good suggestions. I personally would try swapping mags before buying anything else: an A5 or A4 in the neck pup, an A5 or A8 in the bridge.

If non of that gives you what you want there are many other pups to consider, especially when adding mag swaps in the equation.

The '59 is a very versatile wind which accepts just about any mag wonderfully. I love the '59(A8) in the bridge.

The Pearly Gates is another great pup.

I love the Screamin Demon for its even EQ, tight articulate responsiveness both in the bridge and in the neck.
