I am wondering if anyone here can give me some feedback about possible replacement speakers for my Hot Rod Deluxe's OEM Eminence Legend 125 speaker? I've narrowed the field to Jensen C12N ($65 + S&H), Celestion Vintage 30 ($109 + S&H) or the Weber VST 12F150 ($90 + S&H).

Any thoughts on these brands or maybe one I'm not aware of?

I'm thinking about changing mine out too. I'm not sure which one to tell ya, but the boys over at the Fender Forum have a whole club dedicated to the hot rod deluxe...or at least they used to. I remember some of the comments, such as vintage 30's are great for distortion smoothness, but not a 'good' on cleans...all very subjective. Check out the FDP forum...probably your best bet.

first of all, what type of tone are you looking to get with a speaker change?

Re: Which speaker should I get for my HRD?

The Vintage 30 would be my pick of those you mentioned. I like the G12H30 a little better because it has more bass and the highs are a little smoother. Your HRD is a small, open back combo amp...the G12H30 would probably sound fuller. I'd pass on the C12N...to buttery, IMO, and the low end gets a little to loose. Lew

Another option in that range would be a Red Fang. Alnico speaker, sounds a lot like the Celestion Blue but in the sub 125 price range. Better distortion than any of those listed above, much tighter low end. It's got a big bell on it that you can't remove, so check there are no tubes going to get into the way if you decide to go with that one.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Scott, I'm going to check out that Red Fang, it sounds like it might be just what the doctor ordered.
