:p I meant heavier for standard... I didn't know anything about lighter strings having better playability, I figured they were worse because they were just that. Anyway I guess I'll put the 12-54 on and then decide what works after that.

i meant whats gone wrong that made you think heavier doesnt = better? sonically, theres no question to them being better. and i like the feel of moderately heavy (11s for E, etc.) much better, but thats pretty subjective

According to the Rev Billy G, heavier strings don't make that much of a difference. BB King taught him about using light strings for playing comfort.

Not that that reflects my opinion, I do believe that heavier strings can make a difference. But now I realize I enjoy the easy playing of light strings. Heavy strings sometimes make it too muddy for me. I was playing Battery by Metallica a long time ago with 10-52's, then I put on a set of 10-46's that day and the lower string riffs were much more defined.

I guess I'm not really conveying my point very clearly. Heavy strings can mean better, yes, but for playing comfort lighter strings are where it's at.

You mean DGCFAD? A step thicker, or two, if you want the same tension. I find it quite good a rule of thumb. So if you use 10-46 now, try 11-49 or 11-52 or something in between.

Ditto, dude. For D standard you might find Johto's suggestion to be fitting. I would do 11-52 if I were you.
